League Disputes!

Ok everyone how would you all rule on this if you were running a league?

The rule is that there is no practicing during Matches.........that is what the sign says.........and it doesn't specify anything else except you will forfit the points for that round if you are caught practicing.

Now lets say you are the first player on your team and you finish all your matches.

Is it now ok for you to go practice while your team mates continue to finish up league play? Or should you forfit your last match if you practice before your team mates are finished playing?

Just curious what everyone thinks about this situation, then I will tell you all what happened last night! LOL
 
That must be a local rule. Even by the rule, I don't see why it would be wrong to practice when your match is complete.
 
Well, in the case of the player who has played his/her match - is there a possibility of that player playing again later, double playing to make up for a missing teammate?

If not - if that player is done for the night - then I wouldn't care what they did the rest of the night, as long as it didn't affect the outcome of any other matches.
 
I would read it as "YOU can't practice while YOU are playing YOUR match"...

So, as long as you're not at the table, sounds fine to me... Which wasn't an option in the poll, so I skipped it.

Playing leagues is a team sport and as such, members of the team are expected to watch, cheer, coach, whatever their teammates. So I think that while the match is going on, no player of either team should be practicing or gambling.

I think that's the spirit of the rule. Given that spirit, I don't think it should be allowed for a player to play all their games in a row and then leave immediately afterwards either. I grudgingly allow that because I know that sometimes people have something come up. But we had a player request that a few weeks ago and then he stayed at the pool hall all night and gambled. That's wrong IMO.

Note: Personally I don't care and don't make an issue of it, but that's the spirit of the rule as I interpret it.

The sign doesn't designate a particular "who" is practicing so I would assume that no one is allowed to practice whether they have already played or not - forfeit all points earned to that point. Whose sign is it - the league's or the establishments?

If this is a league rule I can think of only one plausible reason for it and that would be if only the players involved are allowed to call fouls. Even if that is the case I don't see why any player would be shooting balls on another table instead of paying attention to their game :eek:

Bottom line - sounds like a dumb rule that needs to be voted out.

1.8 No Practice Allowed During Match

1. It is a foul if you practice at any time during your match, including time-outs and periods of suspended play. "Practice" is defined as any stroke or shot that is not a part of your match, taken on any table at the event venue. In team play, this rule applies to all members of the team roster, whether or not they are playing at the time and whether or not they are listed on the score sheet of the match in progress. (AR)

2. Singles and Doubles penalties: the first violation is a foul, and an unsportsmanlike conduct warning must be issued; a second violation results in loss of game; a third violation results in loss of match.

3. Team Penalties – all penalties are team penalties; second and third penalties may be incurred by any member of the team.

a. For practice violations by players who are actually playing in a game at that time: it is a foul, and an unsportsmanlike conduct warning must be issued to the team; a second violation results in loss of game for the player that commits the second violation; a third violation results in loss of match for the team.

b. For practice violations by players who are not actually playing in a game at that time: it is a foul on all tables, and an unsportsmanlike conduct warning must be issued to the team; a second violation results in loss of the current game on all tables; a third violation results in loss of match for the team. (AR)

Nope! You play 6 games and your done! I was done with my 6 games and so was one of my team mates. The last team mate was half way through with his last game when they started crying to the league operator! My team mate got disqualified after a perfect night! :(

It is a league rule that has never been enforced! But one team this year keeps making a big deal about it, and they are like 8th place out of 10 teams!

Anyway the league operater posted the sign like 2 weeks ago, and now everyone is making a big deal about it.

This is the same way that I would take it.

Players would always play on another table if it was available while they were not playing a league game. The only rule was that they could not interfere with the league table and had to give the player on the league table the right of way.
 
if a league had a rule that told me I couldn't play on a different table in the same hall while other people on my team were playing, i'd tell them to go jump off a cliff and take my business elsewhere.


If a league wants to make a rule about a player not in his turn, but playing his match, who is trying to hit other balls away from the table, i'd be ok with that and maybe even agree with it. For me, personally, I don't care if a player hits as many balls as he wants while I'm shooting... doesn't have anything to do with the balls on the real table.
