League play problem

I have a question for all you guys/gals with great focus.

I play leagues 4 nights (both 8/9 ball) a week, and have an 89.2% win rate per the APA. Lately, I have been real bored in my matches and find myself not playing until I am about to lose...at least I guess that is what I am doing. For the last 2 weeks, I have allowed (not consciously) my opponent to get on the hill in every match, then I seem to be able to focus and have won the matches. Early in the matches, it seems like I can hear everyone's conversation, etc, and have no focus. When I feel I am in trouble, I can play and come back strong.

BTW, I don't have this problem when I am playing stronger players. I don't want this to grow into something that turns into a slump, etc, but I am sure if I continue this way, I won't always be able to come back.

Maybe its time to move away from the leagues a little and step up to the pool hall more often playing stronger players. I'm not saying stop league play, just play 9' table games against the strong players. Generally the really strong players do not engage in league play. You may also have to visit diffferent pool halls to find the players. Some halls just attract more of the better players than others.

Could be a sign of overkill. Maybe you should drop the night with the weakest competition, and use if for practice instead for the other 3 match nights.

Me and my teamates had this problem when we played in the APA Triple Play Masters event. We used to put some money in a pot and the player that lost the least games got the pot. If there was a tie it would carry over to the next week. Try to find something to keep yourself motivated. Try to finish the session without loosing a game or something like that.

IMHO, I think the APA scoring/handicapping system can create a sandbagger mentality and possibly your whole team or opponents are just 'cruising', trying to create more innings to keep your averages down. Then at the end of the game, you have to get busy. You should try another league, maybe BCA, where you have to get it done early or not at all.

Thanks to all of you...good advice.

Nit, too late for me to grow up....been playing a long time.

I like the advice about playing stronger players and I prefer 9 foot tables...I hate 7 footers (sorry). I grew up as a snooker player (here we go again), and liked that game for decades (still do, just nowhere/noone to play).

I know for a fact that it is not sandbagging on my part...I just have no interest until I feel threatened...absolutely no focus...I feel like I am asleep at the table.

Again, thanks for all your suggestions.

When I feel like I am falling into a slump, I head out and search for a Money Shoot. I have found that that's where the best players are, and it forces me to step up my game.
I too noticed, this week in particular, that my 9 Ball game has stepped up, but my 8 Ball has dropped off. I am attributing it to the fact that the 9 Ball league is new and tough, and that is when I play my best. While the 8 Ball is our womens' league, and I am so sick of hearing the nit-picky sniveling of some of these women, that I am just not bringing the game I normally bring.
I have to admit, I much prefer playing men than other women, as a rule. I don't mind losing, as long as I know I brought my game, and I seem to do that better against men...go figure.
