League players are strange people

APA may not be for everyone. There are positives and negatives. If you have ready access to a pool hall and can get a steady dose of good, fun competitive games, I see no reason for joining APA. If you enjoy hanging out with some friends, having a scheduled night per week where you can get a match or two and can put APA in the proper perspective, it may be something you can enjoy. If your primary goals are to use the league as a stepping stone to the pro's, go to Vegas and get 100% fair handicapped competition every week (including tournaments), you should look elsewhere. If you find something in life that is 100% FAIR, please let me know, I want a piece of that action.

Plenty of truth in this.

I run a team with 8 people who genuinely get along very well. We have a good time every week and enjoy each others company. Pool is the glue that holds our friendship together and we like hanging out to shoot.

The only rules on our team is that A) the team runs the team, no one person holds power. And B) No sandbagging of any type. Call your defensive shots and ignore all the league BS.

Occasionally people will find other hobbies and you need to find new friends/players but the competition is strong enough in the area that over a longer period of time people's ranks wont differ too much. We all play for fun and i'm the only person who seeks training/coaching/practice.

Outside of that, the APA is not the proper platform for some of you guys who like to hit the halls and play for money. It is our casual hobby and we buy billiards equipment to support the industry.

I moved to another town, that is big on APA 8-ball & 9-ball. I decided to join in the league; For fun of course, playing 3's and 4's isn't exactly thrilling money matches. The captain of the team badgered me every night to sandbag, which I did not. Trying to cheat in a trophy league is stupid and a waste of effort and time. Anyways, I went from a SL3, to a SL4, to a SL5, and finished the session 7-2.

I found another team to play with, because I was tired of the "league player" and sandbagging crap. When the captain found out, the dude flips out, calls me a traitor and says never to talk to him again. Are all league players little nitty ninnies like that? I hope not.

I was told once from someone on these forums, "If you're in a league for money and trophies, you're in it for the wrong reason."

Maybe I should start wearing my APA patches, pocket chalker, and neon glove? :rotflmao1:

Why don't play with people who are actually your friends then?
