League Question

I just wanted to pose question to some other players who are considered the best (or close to the best player) on their league team, it could be APA or BCA. In my case, it is an APA Masters team.

If you are considered the best player on your team, or even second best, do the rest of the people really watch and understand why you may have lost?

I ask this because everytime I lose, people are surprised. They think I should be an automatic win, although I tell them often nothing is automatic...lol.

Tonight, I had a really tough match, which I lost 7 - 1. I don't lose 7 - 1, often...lol.

However, my opponent played great, had (2) 9 ball breaks, a break and run and (2) early 9 balls after his break where I didn't shoot.

I made one mistake, which he capitalized; however, there were literally 5 games which he ran that I never had a shot.

Next week, when I go back, I know the only thing that I will hear is how I lost 7 -1. Nobody will remember that my opponent played great and I only had a shot or two in the entire match.

Anyone else have this problem with their team and selective memory (or not watching the match).

I am just curious.

Just curious, who racked them, you or him?? (racked right, the 9 hardly moves.)

Yep, good question. It is opponent rack, which was me.

When I rack, I try to rack tight, and make sure there are no loose balls.

Beyond that I don't get try and analyze it too much.

I can't say I was always the strongest on my team, but I have played Masters for 6 years now. I have lost 0-7 and also won 7-0. I have lost to people that I thought I never should have, and there are also times I beat people I thought I couldn't. I think it just comes with the game having good days and bad ones. I have seen someone be up 6-0 and lose.

Masters usually has higher ranked people that have been playing for a while and they should understand that you win some and you lose some no matter how good you are. All of us have been there. If they give you crap just shake it off and remember, if they think you should never lose, they must look up to you. And just let them know next time you meet that team one of them can try to beat the guy who beat you.

I've posted this tidbit on AZ before but it may help you.

A few years ago, when I was still playing BCA Masters 8 Ball in Vegas, I was fortunate enough to play and beat Walter Glass. If my memory serves me, he had just won the Master's the year before. It was my third match and had me high as a kite. Thought this was my year. My next match was against a new player from Spain. Although we alternated breaks, he beat me 7 - 0! Had one actual shot to win a rack. He was amazing! Got out from everywhere. Believe I finished 17 - 24. Walter wound up fifth/sixth! The Spanish guy? Lost his next two matches. Didn't cash. This stuff happens. I'd be more concerned about next week and how YOU play. Forget the rest. In this case, its just 9 ball.
