For those of you that play in 14.1 leagues, how does your league operator handle a "no show" of one of the players to a scheduled match. Is there some type of penalty?

I define a "no show" as someone who did not attempt or make any previous contact that he/she could not play the scheduled match.

Hey Dennis,

In the league i play in, all players are given the whole season to make up their matches. right up to the point of the play-offs.

At that point the player that does not make it for his scheduled make-ups would be given a loss, and the player that would of had to play him would get the win.

Thanks, Steve. But the situation I have is some of us travel 25-30 miles one way to play a scheduled match and the opponent does not show. The cost for gas could be about $12-$15, time is wasted. This could all be avoided by a courtesy call to opposing player before the match that they couldn't make it at scheduled time and would like to reschedule within 2 weeks.

If there is no prior communication by the person who does not show up, at the option of the opponent, the match is forfeited. Except in the case of an emergency, it is an obvious sign of disrespect and should not be tolerated.

We also added a requirement that even if there is a call by someone in time and he begs off, he has two weeks to make it up or it is a forfeit. We have had many players who get so far behind and then do all their games in the last week, inconveniencing the regulars and sometimes making the sessions go on and on. Not fair to the regulars or to the directors who are trying to make sure games are played. This rule can be somewhat leniently applied at the discretion of the director, if circumstances warrant.

yes i totally agree with this.

if both players agree to a certain time and date for a match and one of the players is a no show without a heads up. then that player should get the loss and the player that did abide by the new schedule should get the win.
