League trophy

I used to be big in bass tournaments in my younger years, was state champ for awhile. I had so many trophies, and honestly, they were useless. Would much rather had a plaque or framed print. I threw all my trophies out after some years, but would have kept the plaques and prints.
Nothing wrong with plaques over trophies. ...but at least make it worth displaying

That is free standing so technically a trophy, but you can get them without the base. $120 via amazon with engraving service included

Having said that, after our last league session win, we opted to forgo trophies and add the extra cash to our minimal cash prize and bought Team shirts for everybody.
For our house league, the winners get a little team poster (post playoff picture), engraved beer mugs and whatever cash prize the math works out to.

I do like the team shirt idea.

We have the same core five people playing on three different teams. We intentionally didn't put the team name on the shirts so they can be used for all three teams for tournament/post season play if we want.

We had just enough money left over that we were able to include the couple of odd men out on the other two teams and get them shirts too. They were thrilled to be included.

Admittedly, we're not a particularly attractive bunch. But damn, we look good in our shirts! 😁

My team won the APA Division Championship one season a few years ago and we all received a blue plastic eight inch trophy. I came home proud as a peacock, that is until my eight year old said "Dad the second grade Chess Club trophies looked better than that one."

Years ago I had a good amount of basketball/softball trophies that after a while gravitated to shelves in my garage. One day as I was piddling out there, a couple of neighborhood kids, maybe 6 or 7 years old walk in and asked me about them. I asked them if they each wanted one. They were very elated that they each got to go home with a trophy. A short while later after I went inside, I got a knock on the front door. It was three or four more kids of about the same age asking if I had any more trophies to give away.

To make a long story short by the end of the day I only had two trophies left. I kept those two because they were somewhat (at the time) special to me, as they were tournament MVP awards that I had won. I don't even have them anymore.

Not mentioned yet, but played on the same days as this year's Turning Stone tournament, although the winner's prize was smaller, the winner's trophy for the Texas Open was absolutely first-class.

With the money Fedro will make, he can afford a big house. Yes, that trophy is huge but it’s for pickleball. That’s the irony, isn’t it?
Dude he really doesn’t make that much money When you figure in your paying your own expenses

I'm not your "Dude". Ya' got that Jack! ;)

I believe Shane has made over 2 million, Efren more than that. It seems for now, the prize money is starting to get a little bigger. I don't know how all of the expenses work and I know traveling is expensive, but the players figure it out. Sharing expenses and rooms, frequent flyer miles, sponsorships, etc. Fedor is one of the best players in the world and will get his share of the prize money. He's not on pro-football, baseball or basketball level and never will be, but he will be “wealthy” by most people’s standards. Ya’ got that jack? Now go get some ice cream.

Fedor keeps his trophies.

Trophies are important.
I bought this box of 8 little trophies for $2 at a garage sale and will award these to the winners of my league.
The players are going to love it, I hope.

The shooting sports that I was involved in gave out medals. There is a company called Blackington that makes some really nice, customizable ones that look great and are well received. We had a discussion about awards and a buddy kept saying that it might not be a big deal for some of us, but for those just starting out, getting a medal, trophy, or plaque to show for their efforts is huge. I agree. After a while, the second place medals find their way into a drawer and are somewhat forgotten, but we all have a few that hold more meaning and I still have those proudly displayed.

A young guy from my team and I entered our APA league's Scotch Doubles tournament and won it a few years back. I think it was his first time winning something. We got some cash, a cheezy plastic trophy, and they took a picture of us standing next to the table with the trophies and cash on the cloth. That picture is why I still have that trophy on a shelf downstairs. So I agree, the picture at the time of celebration is what really makes it.

That is a very good point Rickhem. Awards have different meanings to different people. I think the award should reflect the stature of the event.

Trophies, plaques, medals, belt buckles, etc. can be cool. I didn’t regret getting rid of so many of them, until my grandsons found a few. They had a lot of questions, and it made for some good stories.

Saw this today and thought it relevant.

Guess the difference with Ronnie, is that people would want to have a trophy that represents a part of his legacy on their wall. I know I would...lol

Yes, very relevant. I think I stated before, trophies have different meanings for different people. I personally wouldn't want a trophy of another in most cases. If I had a bar, game room or pool room, it would absolutely be cool to have a high value trophy to display. Other than that, I don't see a reason for it. I collected them as a kid, but I was a kid. As an adult and at level of accomplishment, I would only keep a national title or something of that stature. Again, to each their own on that subject. As far as an event promoter goes, it's just a level of class and detail that shouldn't be overlooked. Nothing more, nothing less.
