I'm looking at purchasing a fixture for installing leather wraps, I have a cuesmith deluxe. My question is would I be better of with the attachment Mr Hightower sells for the cuesmith or with the unique fixture.
Any input would be appreciated.

I know I am biased. But they both do a great job, so you can't go wrong either way.

Buy both, and do a review on here for the rest of us asking ourselves the same question.

I have a deluxe and was not aware Chris has a fixture so I bought a Unique Leather Wrap fixture. Although I like Chris' products and probably would have bought his if i known I do not regret the unique fixture it works flawless.

Wish I could

I wish I had the money for that experiment. I just bought a bunch of wood (ouch). This hobby is very expensive.

I found myself facing the same question a few months ago. When I talked to Chris, he made a good point. The only real difference between his jig and some of the other "standalone" jigs is that when you buy a "standalone" jig, you are paying for the equipment to hold the cue in place while you are doing the wrap. In the case of already having a Deluxe Cuesmith, I already had the equipment to hold the cue in place. So if you don't mind using your lathe as the "holder", there's no sense in spending the extra $$$ for a "standalone" jig. I bought Chris' add-on jig for the Deluxe Cuesmith and have been impressed with the results, as have my customers.

Although I have not tried Chris's , I am with RD. Chris is great to work with and has great products. I to have deluxes , but I went with the unique for the easy mobility. I can take it with me to tournament very easy if someone calls and wants a wrap done there. It is a great fixture and am glad I purchased it. But I am sure Chris's works great also.
Thanx,
Jim Lee

It works on the Mid Size and Deluxe but not on Micros.
Look on the leather wrap blanks page.

I'm guessing it doesn't work on the Micros due to them not having the indexing head. Is that correct?

An outside opinion....I'm sure the Hightower attachment is top notch and gets the job done equally as well as any.
But here is one thing that I like about having a stand alone jig for doing leather. The fact that while working the wrap I can sit down at my desk in my very comfortable chair and move and maneuver the fixture to my liking and my very large magnifier is attached to my desk also.

<~~~doesn't like being bent over a lathe for that long.........

Chris, could your fixture be adapted to fit an old atlas? I would be interested if so. Thanks

If the lathe has indexing to lock the head in you could build a toolpost riser block that my fixture would fit on.

My atlas is alot like your old one that you used to have so, yes it has an indexing head. I'll be calling or emailing you at some point in the near future. Thanks for the reply.
