i have a cue i am swapping out the leather wrap on
im changing from reg textured to an embossed leather
the problem is the embossed leather is sig thinner than the textured.

i need to build up the lip. i use contact cement and it works great but i dont know what to built up the lip with.

in the past ive seen epoxy built up on linen and also masking tape but contact cement doesnt stick to these 2 things

does anyone have experience with this problem? if so what did you use to built this up

any input will be greatly appreciated

Mix up some epoxy and build it up then sand it down to desired depth. two part Plastic Wood works great if your hardware store carries it also. Bondo will also work.

ive tried both masking tape and epoxy. for linen i can get it to work but on leather the contact cement doesnt stick to the epoxy

what contact cement are you using?

What type of contact cement are you using that won't stick to Epoxy? If you follow the instructions from cueman and make sure the surface is completely cured and clean and free from dust it should work fine.

just reg rubber cement. works great on natural wood but doesnt stick to other things

i have to pull HARD to get a wrap off

You can get bondo for fiberglass and wood. I have use it to fix a wrap groove befor. I was cutting the groove and got vibration with chatter. Filled it in with bondo and sanded. Could not tell the difference.

jimbo.

Hit with 100 grit before applying contact cement. Should stick if it's roughed up. Better change cements if it doesn't.

If you do a little checking - Google is your friend - you'll find
rubber cement is not for perm bonds - it's for positioning
leather that will be sewn, etc for construction.

Contact cement gives a permanent bond.

Buy some real "Contact Cement" and throw away the rubber cement. Rubber cement is good for Grade school art projects not cue building! Just MHO.

I hope "Rubber" was a typo. You need to be using contact cement or White glue for Leather IMO. Contact Cement will stick to Bondo, Plastic Wood, and everything I have ever wanted it to stick to. I used to replace rubber on pool table rails, and we used Contact Cement it will definately work.

no its not a typo. i works wonderful. this is an exception usually have to cut deeper groove. customer what a specific piece of leather

i dont really want to change anything. leather doesnt move or come off. only if i want it to. i can finish a wrap with no lip in under 45 mins seam is undetectible here is a pic of my playing cue with the seam showing

ps the seam is on the right perfectly placed in the middle of the point...

You might consider building up your thinner piece with adhesive to achieve you desired thickness. I like the results obtained with Durabond contact cement. I also purchase an additional can of Durabond reducer so I can keep the adhesive at a workable viscosity. YMMV. GL.

so is that the brand of contact cement ppl are using

its 2 parts or does is just open and go on like rubber cement.

does anyone have a pic of what it looks like?

this is what i use

works great i can be done in 1-2 hr and i dont have to worry about getting it on the cue finish. wrap will not ever come off unless i want it to

Read & follow the directions carefully. If you have one of the wrap jigs suggest you review the DVD.
