In addition to what RAT said, you can also us a little Naptha to loosen the
contact cement if you get a tough area. It leaves less leather on the cue.
It's a chemical and you should use proper care when using it.
Shouldn't hurt a car coat finish.
Wrap a paper towel around the wrap leaving 3/4" uncovered on each end. Thoroghly wet the paper towel with toluene (Home Depot) then wrap a piece of aluminum foil over the area to prevent evaporation. In about 15 minutes the wrap will just slide off. Clean the rest of the glue off with the toluene. Toluene won't hurt the finish unless you let it soak in for a long time. Use gloves and plenty of ventilation.
