leather wraps

Ok, I am wanting to get a leather wrap on my Elite Break cue, since I dont like the linen wrap on it, and have Friction tape over it for more grip.

I asked a local cue maker about getting a simple stacked wrap on it, but he said it wouldnt give me a better grip.

But tonight one of the locals, got back from valley forge and had his Schon stack wrapped,( very nice looking now ) and it felt more like a Wrapless cue.

Now I know its only a 80$ cue and I'd be spending about 100$ for the wrap lol.

But can someone give me some help on if the leather is going to be slippery or not?

Hi I love the wrap Ryan ( Rat Cues ) put on my Schon . You can call him and ask if maybe he could leave a little texture to it so it won't be so smooth. He is at Meueler , in the cue shop. Super work or a decent price. Jim

one of us is confused

Do you prefer the feel of the Schon, because it feels like it's
'wrapless'? I ask because IMHO a non-wrapped cue would be the smoothest of any option.

Will the leather be slippery?
No, unless the leather wrapper goes to great lengths to make it so.

you have some choices other than friction tape:
1. the linen that is on the cue now.
It takes a bit of work and effort to make a linen wrap smooth,
even more to get it slick. any good cue repair guy should
be able to de-smoothify your wrap in a few minuets.

2. Get one of those rubber condom grips favored by 3C players
I think Muellers sells them

I like the feel of my buddy's Schon with the Stack wrap, because it felt like it didnt have a wrap. I like using a cue that doesnt have a wrap because I get a better grip.

But thats just what I like. I know I'd be spending more on the wrap then what the cue is worth but, oh well.

I also prefer no wrap for a better grip, and for me a stack leather that is properly burnished comes in a close second. It will feel much closer to no wrap than the linen will.

Are you saying that your friends stack wrap feels like
wood with clearcoat? 'cause that's what a no wrap cue feels like.

Or do you mean the wrap feels "neutral" to you?

If it is the second, you might want to check out a cue
with a cork wrap - sheet, not 'stacked'.

Does any cuemaker here do cork wrap?

Can someone direct me to one who does?

Many thanks.

Best regards

if you liek the feal of a wrapless, you could always have it refinished over the wrap like meucci does. that way it will keep the asthetics of a wrap and have the feal of a wrapless.

If the wrap channel is cut rather deep. With a normal wrap job, AFAIK it would not come out right.

One story I have read (probably on here) regarding what meucci does is a particular run of cues had the wrap channels cut too deep and rather than scrap them, Bob got the idea to clear over them to bring them up to flush with the rest of the cue. That part may just be a tall tale.

PFD Cues does really good cork.

I talked with Paul last weekend at the SBE. He uses the rubberized gasket type cork and it was a really nice job. I liked the way it felt so I bought a blank from Hightower.
