Leather wraps

When I put on a leather wrap, before the expoxy I always dry fit it and it seems to be just right. Once it is on, you can feel "just barely" the leather on both ends (not the seam). What is the best way to mold it on the ends where you can't fill the edges at all?
Thanks, Larry.

I've never heard of anyone using epoxy for a leather wrap. Everyone I know of uses contact cement. Any way I use a small wallpaper roller. It works great...JER

Same here...and I never heard of anyone cutting the seam to size before it's installed...

I meant contact cement - not epoxy;-) The seam is not the problem... It is the edges (top and bottom) against the cue. Thanks for the replies.

Depending on how thick you put the contact cement on just hand sand the wrap groove ends perfectly before applying the wrap. Like others said use a roller on the ends to compact. Just sounds like your not cutting the wrap groove deep enough at the ends.

Are you applying contact cement to the edges of the leather as well as the end of the wrap groove? If so, then use the edge of a 3 or 4" piece of ferrule material or even just a ferrule and roll it along the edge of the leather ends while gently pushing downwards. Be careful not to push towards the finish and then slip onto it.

I mounted a bearing onto a toolpost to press the end of the leather after intalling. But remember the contact cement takes up a couple of thousandths. With the dry fit being perfect, it will still stick up a little because of the contact cement thickness when installed.

I appreciate all the help - I finished two wraps this weekend and they both turned out great! Of course, the first one I had to do twice ;-(. Hey Chris, you wouldn't have a picture of that bearing you use, would you?
Thanks again, guys!!! Larry.

Inquiring minds want to know, what you did to correct the problem.

No but Brianna sells a tool that does the same thing.

I had some nice leathers from Chris H that worked like a charm. The problem was that I had bought a bunch of large leather prints that I cut (and dyed) myself. That leather was just a tiny bit thicker and a lot stiffer. It was very hard to work with - and I thought I was getting a good deal ;-( ... Learned my leason - use the good stuff from Chris!
Thanks, Larry.
