Legal herbal energy pills, coffee, cola - All day tournaments?

Well they sure do charge for water in Europe! I think I paid $9 U.S. for a large bottle of water at a fancy restaurant in Switzerland (Not to mention the $7 U.S. for a Big Mac at McDonalds). Had to pay for water everywhere. Also had to pay to go to the bathroom.

Ya, but there you can get a beer at McDonalds to enjoy with your Big Mac ... priceless !

I like that as well ! :p Except here in Finland it's not possible because our f**king strict alcohol laws

And, I like that you can walk in any major European city in the middle of the night without a fear being mugged or shot.

Hope you don't lump Canada in there with the mugged or shot business, Canada is nothing like the US. There is 2 types of Americans, THE PROUD to be's, and the ones that wanna be Canadians :D

I eat EARLY and HEALTHY...don't drink anything but H2O during play...if its an all day affair...I eat only protein, and not to much...meat digestion is the hardest on the body...makes you lathargic...if I have a liquid lunch or a buger and fries or something like that...save that for after the win! ;)

Meat doesn't affect me that way, but even so I make sure I get a good dose (~1/3 cup or so on cereal) of soy protein before bed, as the body rebuilds itself during rest and needs protein to do it. Soy has a bunch more advantages, too.

I also avoid simple carbs before/during play to keep the blood sugar somewhat steady (except a beer, perhaps :) )

I've observed my mentor, Don McCoy, during day-long tournaments and he oscillates between a cup of coffee, perhaps a beer, more coffee, water, some light food, maybe another beer, then some coffee, water, etc. etc. He never gets drunk or speedy, or filled up, he just kind of maintains a level demeanor throughout the day. His successful experience through the years has more than demonstrated the effectiveness of this technique---for himself, anyway.

One thing I've discovered, having been in the nutrition business now for over 23 years, is that every body is different and what works for one may not work for another. So, experiment, keep track, and do what works.

In response to this thread I've just raised the price of my bottled water from $1.00 to $2.50.

"Cheap brokes"? Is there anything else in a pool room?

For those tournaments which start at 8 am and go till 11 pm...

I noticed at a recent all day/night tournament that those who started out drinking beer early in the morning were no longer in the running by early afternoon. (Didn't think they would last long.)

One player said he took an herbal energy pill which has a bit of caffeine in it, and that helped to keep his energy up later in the evening.

I drink cola and that helps. Eating a large meal is a problem for me - makes me sleepy.

What do you folks do to stay awake and energetic? How about eating?
Being Diabetic makes playing these types of tournaments like walking a tightrope for me if I eat before or during my sugar level goes up for a while and it affects my eyes and tends to make me feel tired!

If I try and eat light and little my sugar may go low on me and then I get shaky ! I have been learning how to balance it but not for all day and night!

Well, I worked in a room and can attest that asking for a glass of water is a major taboo, especially if you don't tip. If you leave even $1, nobody will think you're being cheap. They'll just think you just want water. The poolrooms I usually go to sell water so it's not an issue but I'll leave AT LEAST $1 anyway.
Most everyplace sells bottled water.
