We had 21 players. Despite this relatively low turnout, the quality of play was excellent. It was won by J-Bird. Scott Rabon came in second. I wish we could draw more players but frankly, I don't know what else to do. We put out our dates a year in advance and were in all the billiard mags and Az and still got scheduled over.
Please note that yes, earlier we drew only 8 players each for two of our tournaments, ten for our first ladies and 21 for our just held One Pocket and we paid every nickel without complaining. The smallest added money was $1,000. For this tournament, $1250 was added. We had the largest crowd yet watching some really exciting pool.
So in the future, if you want to attend quality, well run, stylish, professional tournaments with the finest equipment, we'd love to have you, player or spectator.
Matthew, my stepson and our manager posted that we'd have live streaming. I don't know anything about that or how to do it. So I apologize for it's absence. In the future, however, if we can arrange that with volume I'll be doing commentary, which won't be censored in any way.
I am also starting to take entry fees for the 2009 Bank Pool ring game at the DCC. It will be only $1,500 this time. I have two entries already and as usual, it'll be limited to 6 players. No rooms or entry fees for the tournament will be accorded to the ring game participants this time. This will fill up quickly. So if you'd like to play or stake a player, contact me.

It seems today that pool players are not as important to promoters, tournament organizers, tours, et cetera, as stakehorses and backers.

Today, promoters, organizers, and TDs seem to appreciate stakehorses and backers, much, much, much, much, much more so than pool players.

One suggestion may be to get in contact with some stakehorses and backers to attend upcoming events. After all, everybody knows that without the stakehorses and backers, there would be nothing happening. Right? Who needs the pool players to show up?!

Forget about the pool players, since they seem to be held in such low regard these days.

Just my humble opinion, for what it's worth!

Maybe I'll do just as you suggest. Lambert Louvier put on a great tournament in 1977, in Baton Rouge, where he invited just backers. There was a ton of action. Keith was present. Other notable attendees were Buddy, Sigel, Ronnie, Louie, Mathews, Liscotti and Jerry Brock, who won the event.
Since we're talking, I have given my total support towards Keith getting the "Lifetime Action Acchievement Award". He is more deserving than anybody I know. I trust these words find my old friend in good health and spirits?

Sounds like that Baton Rouge tournament was a great tournament. Wish I could have seen it. WOW!

Keith's standing right here with me and I showed him your kind words. He said there is no doubt in his mind that he should be on that list of the action award. There's a lot of guys up there that he believes should not even be close for consideration before him, but as we all know, it's politics.

The players, like you, know who's action and who ain't! That's for sure. Long live Chicago, I guess. :)

I was respectfully requested to reply one more thing to your comment about the Baton Rouge tournament by my beloved room mate! :D

He said that it was funny because right after Jerry Brock won the tournament, he played Jerry on a bar box, starting out giving him the last 2, then the call 8, and broke him. It was for 3 or 4 dimes a set, he seems to recall. "Robbed him, didn't last long at all."

As he recalls, he was flown in by Dottie and got staked by Dottie and Lambert.
 
More about That event and time

I won about $30,000, a veritable fortune for the likes of me. I won every time I played except twice: Larry Liscotti ran 138 and out on me for five dimes and Keith beat me a seven ahead 9 Ball in about an hour. I think we were betting three or four dimes.
Before or since, I've never witnessed better pool than Keith played back then. By the way, Keith beat me a set for $13,000 in 1989, getting only a ball spot. So don't think that he couldn't play One Pocket, too.
Keith was to me a class act and when he entered a tournament arena or a gambling venue, there was always a hush, an exciting hum of voices, just waiting for what he would do next. What would come next was usually perfect pool.
Lastly, please allow me to say that Keith usually paid his debts. He never did anything bad to me except sometimes give me a good beating on the pool table.
Call me crazy but I just had a thought. I'm almost 66, Freddie is 68 and Cardone is a couple of years younger than I. There is almost 6 weeks to practice for the DCC. How about the four of us playing a Bank Pool ring game, $2,000 each and I'll get Keith staked if he's in any shape at all? We might even get San Jose Dick to play,too. How about it, out there in internet land? Would you like to see this? I have no cash but I can raise that much money.

Grady, what a kind offer from a kindred spirit, but we will not be going to DCC this year. :frown:

I would definitely like to watch a ring game with you guys, however. :smile:

I heard it through the grapevine that Jack Cooney might be at the DCC, and what a great performance it would be to watch you, Jack Cooney, Billy Incardona, Freddy the Beard, and San Jose Dick barking and playing some.

Throw in Ronnie Allen, Danny DiLiberto, Jimmy Mataya, Wade Crane, Truman Hogue and Jimmy Reid, some players who usually attend the DCC, why, this one would surely be a best seller, IMHO!
