All of the Sly cues I have viewed on AZ have impressed me. He is definitely a creative, talented cue-maker. His veneers are immaculate, colorful and the inlays are precisely made and positioned. The creativity of some of the sleeve designs knocked me off my feet....Leon is one of the best kept secrets and I can't understand why......another cue-maker that doesn't get the acclaim he deserves is Bob Owen.
Back to Leon's cue's, he has made some cues that compete with the very best. Personally, I think the Szamboti designs he's made should qualify as outstanding works of pool art. The pending ivory ban in California is going to crimp my pool cue collecting but if it weren't for that horrible development, I'd likely be asking Leon to build me a killer Szamboti design pool cue.........and I have every confidence it would be a total knockout too. I would have asked him to use that elite stock of ebony he is willing to part with for my points and butt sleeve........the forearm would have to be some type of maple.
I hope folks who enjoy owning one of Mr. Sly's cues will post photos for the rest of us to enjoy. Keep up that great cue-making Leon and Jimmy Lee, if I were in your shoes, I'd be starting a cue fund so I could get one of his cues........maybe you already do......if so, get a bigger cue case so you can add some more Sly pool cues.
