Not sure what it's called,but I was told leopard ebony.I saw a prather made from it and just wanted to know if anyone has used it for a handle and how does it play???? thank you..
Prather's calls it "leopard ebony" but that definitely' ain't the scientific name.

It was referred to as "Louro Preto" and reviewed in the following link:

Definitely not the same wood as the Louro Preto. The Louro Preto is actually a Brazilian Bocote, and plays very much like Mexican Bocote, but with a slightly crisper hit. That cue looks a little different from 'normal' Bocote in that it is nothing but birds eyes from end to end...really neat.
I did find one other reference to leopard ebony used in a classical guitar...but I suspect it is just a variety of the Black and White/Striped Ebony. I would guess they call it Leopard because of the unique figuring that gives it the look of spots on a leopard big cat.
I believe that Jeff uses whatever the wood description is given to him by his wood supplier. Don't know who the supplier is...but he has been getting some really neat stuff in lately! :yeah:
