i played with a joss west for about 20 years and loved the way it played, could be the best cue i have ever seen. But when i started making cues, i decided the less inlays, rings, and simpler the cue, the better for me. photos are of my playing cue for last 2-3 years it hits as well as any cue i have ever had in my hands. it is straight grain maple full spliced into straight grain maple, wood pin, no rings, no ferrule. a total of 7 pieces make this cue, tip, carbon fiber pad, shaft, wood pin, full plice butt, rubber bumper.
you will have to look close to find the splice in the photo.
