Have you run into questionable Tournament Directors? I have, but mostly ones that run a weekly tournament.
My number 1 attribute a Tournament Director must have: Honesty in all tournament dealings.
First Case: Weekly tournament. Girl was running it. Bad enough at first she didn't know what she was doing, she gradually learned. National type handicap system used. 2-2 to 6-2 races for 8 ball. 3-3 to 7-3 races for 9 ball.
One of the best players kept winning the weekly tournament and his handicap never went up. Any other player that won, their handicap went up, including mine.
After several weeks of this, I complained to the owner of the room, and told her I wouldn't play in a tournament that wasn't fair to everyone. The girl discontinued running tournaments and became a bartender there. There is the ever telltale sign in her eyes when ever I order something that she was guilty, and she knows I told on her.
Second Case: Weekly tournament. 9 ball last night, same type handicap system. It was slow and we had 11 players, I asked the TD. He runs the tournament on a laptop with software. I lost in the final match for the winners bracket, and am playing the winner of the loser's bracket to try to get back to a final match. My opponent gets angry, and quits giving me the match. I did not make him angry, he got angry at the teenyboppers surrounding us, with their immature ways.
I told him he had money coming for 3rd place. He said he didn't care about the money and to give it to 1st and 2nd place before leaving.
The tournament was a $10 entry, with the house adding 50%.
I win the first set of the final match, and a friend of mine I was playing and I agreed to split 1st and 2nd. When we were ready to split, the TD says there were only 10 players, when he had told me 11 before the tournament, and my friend that I split with could name all 11. So that is $15 in question. Next the TD says 3rd place was $25, 2nd was $45 (hardly worth the time), and 1st was $80. The TD does not add 3rd place money to our split like the player said, he said he was going to save it for him, to give to him at a later date. So that is another $25 in question for a total of $40 floating out there in cyberspace somewhere.
Personally, couldn't prove it, I felt like the TD, who played in the tournament and lost, was pocketing the $40, and the 3rd place player would never see the $25, much less it ever be mentioned.
