I used to love chess, I finally decided to take some lessons and I contacted a russian who spoke english through my chess club, who came very highly recommended, Being Russian , they could charge 10 dollars an hour and it was like making 50 or 100 here. I think their rating was about 2300 but they had been students in the National chess academy for years, I spoke to them for about 1/2 an hour and we decided a plan for improvement based on setup positions puzzles and some theory. I was really excited . I did my first lesson and did really well, the instructor even said they were surprised at how well I understood for my rating. I think I was mid 1700s at that time. The next lesson I saw the first scenario and knew i had seen it before ,it was a tricky sacrifice 2 pieces for a smothered mate in 5. I then remembered where I had seen it and went and got my Polgar book out . The previous weeks lesson and this one were straight out of Lazlo Polgars book. lol It was an excellent learning tool.
