Dude listen, I'm merely stating my honest opinion in case someone is looking to get some lessons. I think Charlie is by far the best I've worked with. I'm not knocking anyone else and their abilities to teach or play; I'm simply stating my opinion. I'm not here to get into the specifics of why and all, but here's a couple: he identified a couple bad habits that I needed to undo, and most no one else before him had pointed them out. Second, the banking systems he showed me were alone enough to make the trip worthwhile. Now I'm making most of my banks or coming within a ball from the pocket. Just imagine how valuable this would be to your game.
First off, you won't win points getting on here and insulting people. I took offense to your post because it was insulting to many that make a living teaching people how to play this game.
Teaching pool is my sole source of income. I think I'm pretty damned good at it, myself.
For over 20 years I have busted my ass to earn my reputation as one of the best instructors in the world, not just the U.S. or North America - THE WORLD. I have flown to Europe, Japan, Taiwan, Manila, and many other places to JUST to give lessons. Along the way I have learned other techniques from other instructors you have never heard of, and I have incorporated their teachings into my curriculum. These lessons were booked because my reputation and my instructional techniques speak louder than anything I could ever say to put down another instructor. It's just not something that I do to get more students.
I have spoken one on one with Charlie about instruction. I know how he feels about pool - he is extremely passionate about the game and his instructional techniques.
Do I play at Charlie Bryant's level? No.
Neither does 95% of the planet, so don't expect me or any other instructor to lose sleep over that.
Can I teach pool?
Yes I can.
I have worked with Amateurs and I have also worked with World Champions, WPBA top 10 players, and many of the top men. I don't have to mention names, just go out there and ask around and you'll hear positive things about what I do and how I do it.
I take offense when anyone makes the statement that "some teachers can't play very well" and the tone insinuates that we should be avoided in favor of "whomever".
I may not be a top 9 ball player, but I have competed professionally, written books about 9 ball, 14.1, the mental game, and I have a high run in straight pool of 212 balls. I can bank well, kick just as accurately as some of the Filipino players, and go toe to toe with anybody in the world in a safety battle - despite not having the trophy case full of championships to brag about.
Most of what I teach was taught to me by Cisero Murphy, Jack Colavita, Buddy Hall, Steve Mizerak, Mike Carella, Louie Roberts, Cowboy Jimmy Moore, Gene Nagy, and Hal Mix. On that list, only one of them is still amongst the living - and I work hard to keep the imagination and creativity of those great teachers and players we have lost alive and well through my work as instructor and author.
I'm sure Charlie's instruction is great, well worth the trip and whetever he is charging. All I am saying is that its disrespectful to make a blanket statement about instructors that don't play at Charlie's level.
I have met Charlie and he's a really nice person and he has a wealth of knowledge - we have had conversations about instruction. I am sure he doesn't need anyone coming in here on his forum and insulting others, which you have done in 3 out of the 4 posts you have made since you have been here. It's just not necessary. He's a great teacher, you learned a lot and you highly recommend his instruction. That is all you had to say, but you chose to bash others in your post. Not sure why you felt the need to do that, but expect others to confront you when you attack their livelihood, IMO, that is what you did.
