Let a novice get away with blatant fouls?

So a few co-workers go to happy last night, and there is a pool table there.
I play 8-ball against a female who is clearly a beginner.

She slops one ball into the wrong pocket and I let her shoot again.
Later in the same game, she wants to shoot at one of her balls near a pocket, but my ball is very close to the CB, and also partially blocking her line to her ball. She shoots at her ball anyway, not only hitting my ball first, but also "pushing" the CB with her cue through my ball, actually slopping in two of her balls on that shot :embarrassed2:

Yes, I let her shoot again after that double-foul, At her level of play, I figure its just a social activity to her, let her enjoy herself a little bit......

Yep, if nothing is on the line, who cares.

Even in some smaller tournaments, I might let a weaker player get away with something small. However, in those cases I always make sure to let them know after the fact.

If it's a big tournament or a gambling match, I don't care how ignorant they are, I'm calling every foul.

In the situation you described just let it happen. They'll get annoyed with you if you are being a rules stickler when everyone is just trying to have a good time and they've never played before.

Sounds like just having fun.

Normal.

No problem.

Generally the last thing players like that want at a time like that is somebody like one of us getting all serious about the rules.

When my wife plays it typically goes as you described.

I have to agree with the above. If you're playing with someone who isn't interested in serious pool, I wouldn't worry too much about it. But if they are interested in improving and playing properly, then you can possibly educate them on the rules.

It sometimes comes back to bite you though, I remember playing someone for fun and they fluked 4 balls and potted 2 balls properly. They were close to winning the game, which I of course would never have heard the end of. Thankfully they failed to fluke the 8 (yes that should be loss of game), so I was able to run out.

Has happened to me many times. And occasionally I have lost such a game. I don't really care in general.

sounds more like a social interaction than a pool game. when having fun have fun. there is no need to be the rules police; just smile and say ya'll comeback ya hear ...

the first question is
IS SHE CUTE....:grin-square:
next question
DOES SHE HAVE A BOY FRIEND....
if the answers are YES /NO
let her do what she wants and buy her a drink after your game....:)

Beginner at what? Is she recently divorced or fresh out of an all girls school?
It's amazing what we guys consider foreplay, isn't it.
It used to surprise me what I'd let girls get away with as a younger man, it never got me anywhere.

I let beginners get away with slop while I play no slop and don't try too hard or seriously. I usually also casually mention what was a foul and why AFTER they shoot and tell them to not worry about it though. Usually I talk to them about leagues or something like that to see if they get interested in the game and try to help nurture them along and bring them into the game I love.

I try to remember that not everyone is my skill level and don't want to turn them off from the game before they have had a chance to see if they enjoy it or not.

Sounds like she was flirting with you.

That's what it sounds like to me.
On the other hand, you may be correct in your assessment of her pool play. Perhaps you should point out the vast array of BCA rule infractions she has incurred and warn her that any future violations of such rules, whether sober or not, will be met with embarrassing chastisements.
That's when she can tell you to go piss up a rope and move on to the next guy.

I knew you'd eventually chime in on a thread about being blatantly foul

I'm as about as blatantly foul as they come.

P.S. By-the-way, have you heard about the new after-shave called Umpire?
It's for foul balls.

I never play with people who play that bad. What is the point. I just let them play with each other and enjoy themselves. What point is there to me beating them and showing off?

Well when a girl with this smile wearing a shirt saying focus on me I do just that I could care less how many games I let her win
I won later
