Lets build a Pool Case for today's Player

I sent these guys an email:

rugged cases

Their stuff is overkill, but maybe they could make a lightweight version.

I like the idea of a hinged case.

I always wanted to put a motor in the bottom of a case so I could just place the shaft on the butt (still in case) and push a button to screw the two parts together. Not lazy, just saving time.

Also, a handle to carry it like a suitcase is nice.

Also, a pocket for a weapon.

And for eye glasses.

And for a small flashlight for doing league paperwork in dark bars.

I like your idea for a security alarm. With GPS prices coming down, it is much more feasible than before. Maybe if the case leaves the vicinity, your cell phone would beep...or something like that, anyway.

Oh yeah, and a slave to carry the damn thing! :)

A case can't be all things to everyone. That said I am working on something that I won't reveal here BECAUSE everytime I do someone beats me to market with it.

I kind have a fascination with Pool cases and jump sticks. I, think, with Pool
cases because I feel they could be better with some changes:

All internal specs for a case would be in keeping with quality cases today,
or better.

A player that is somewhat accomplished might need the following
on his case:

1) Upper pocket with 3 sections:
a) fairly flat back section for pocket notebook
with a couple of pens. Easy to slide out.
Needed to write players names, adds, phones, or
billiard room info, or tournament info.
b) Pocket section for bridge head, gum, small candy, misc. small items.
c) Front flat section for business cards, sandpaper, flat type things.

Done it. Some like it some don't.

2) Separate pocket to hold 3 pieces of chalk. Easy to get out.

Good idea.

3) Bottom 16" pocket for larger items. (I also carry items like
crackers and cheese packs in large pocket. Pool cue holder (2 cues).
Extra cigarettes. Cleaner and polish for shaft.

14" is plenty for jump cue handles and everything else. That's whats on cases now.

4) IMO, on reverse side of bottom pocket, 2 softer padded sleeve pockets for
Jump stick butts with quick velcro top closure.

Today's cases already have jump pockets.

5) The netting pocket where optimal for cell phone.

Also currently available.

6) Fastener on outside for Pool towel if desired. Near the top of case.

Already there or easily attachable.

7) Fastener on bottom half for Pool cue holder for people that get
holders for a whole Pool team, or a large holder.

Also easily modifiable in numerous ways.

8) Carrying handle - padded.

Already on most cue cases.

9) Carrying strap - very well padded to alleviate sore shoulders on big cases.
strap should be strong, and pad should be thick and soft.
(I have bought a seat belt pad to use before to have enough
pad for a 4 x 8 Porper case).

Already available on a lot of today's cases. If not then there are tons of aftermarket straps available.

10) Some type of audible security device built in.

These are available aftermarket. I did a case for Oliver Ortmann once that had one built in. He never used it. The first tie it goes off in the tournament is the last time you use it in the pool room. The embarassment is far worse than losing your stuff :-)

A serious player will probably have:

A) Playing cue with 2 shafts.
B) Break cue. Maybe Break/jump cue.
c) Maybe a 2nd jump cue.

A 2 x 4 version case of above would serve him/her.

Oh, you meant the above should be available on LESS than a 2x4. I carry two cues in a soft padded case with a good tip tool and that works for me now.

The REAL serious player might have:

A) Playing cue with 2 shafts.
B) Backup playing cue with 2 shafts.
C) Break cue or Break/Jump cue. **
D) Jump cue.

A 3 x 6 version case of above would serve him/her.

** If player above has just a Break cue and not Break/Jump, he could
possibly have 2 Jump cues.

Then, a 3 x 7 or 4 x 8 version of above case would serve him/her.

This is what I have thought of without trying to OVERDUE it. What do
you think? Do you think Cases can be made where they are uptodate
with today's players and more convenient for the player.

Abosolutely. Like I said I am working on it.

nobody has said any specifics, but the word is you've got a great idea in the works as far as cases go.

First, where did you see the case similiar to BR-29 that is a 3 x 5? I have researched Silver Fox cases and haven't seen such a case. I was primarily
looking at the BR-2, since it is a hard/soft case, and it has been redesigned
for the pockets to have a 16" pocket on the bottom, which can hold jump butts. NO WEBSITES have the picture of the NEW BR-2. I have emailed
Silver Fox, and they said yeah, they need to do that. Silver Fox is wholesale
only, and not really receptive to talking to the end user.

I bought my case from a guy in Ohio. I can PM you his email if you want. I was going to get the 2x2 case, but the guy informed me that there is no difference between the 2x2 and 3x5 and they both cost the same. They're both the same size but the 3x5 has more dividers.

I had some additional thoughts about this topic.

#1. Like backpacks it should have a pad between the case and your back.
#2. It should be waterproof.
#3. It should have over kill padding on the shoulder strap
#4. It should have a pocket on the side not front like a backpack for items in your pocket i.e. Keys cell phone etc. These items are first thing I remove because they stick you in the legs when leaning against the table.
#5. It should be a flip up style design to avoid problems pulling out shafts like the tube problems.
#6. Seperate waterproof compartment for chalk and slick stick. It is the worst finding the bottle spilled all over everything.
#7. ABS plastic is best because its light weight and extremely strong.
#8. Handle on top & side with corner to corner designed shoulder strap.
#9. Avoid foam rubber inside case. Foam has scratched cues in past. Molded smooth rubber would feel better and perform better.
#10. It should stand up.
#11. It should have a cue rest built in or flip out to lean cues against while opponent is playing or you are breaking.

Just a few thoughts!
