Let's get back to pool!

When I joined this forum (two months ago to the day, I believe), I was delighted to become part of an online community of fellow pool players and enthusiasts. Over the last two months, despite my geographical separation from the pool world, I have been privileged to interact and learn from pool people ranging from legendary players to beginners and everywhere in between.

Today, and for the last few days, what I feel when I come on the forum is an overwhelming sadness and an impending sense of doom for this wonderful billiard resource. We all know what I'm talking about, and I will not add to the discussion of that matter.

Fellow AZ'ers: Why did we join this forum and why have we, collectively, spent so much time and energy in our continued participation? Was it to talk and share information about the game we love, or was it to become involved in personalities? What would happen if when you went to your usual pool room you could barely play pool because the place was too full of fights, noise and argument to concentrate on the game? If we don't take immediate and decisive action to reverse the current trend, we run the risk of ruining this online community that has contributed so much to so many enthusiasts over the last few years. And is it not worth saving? Is this not the online community that made it possible for JS to attend and win the US Open? Is this this not the forum that has brought together pool lovers from all over the world? For me, I know that in addition to being my lifeline to the pool world, this forum has made it possible to reconnect with two great pool buddies that I hadn't heard from in over 15 years. This forum is worth something, I am willing to fight to save it, and I know that most of you are too.

Therefore, I propose the following: Let us resolve, for at least the next seven days, to devote our attention and our postings solely to the discussion of the game, and let us resolve, for the new year, to "speak" to other posters the way we would want to be spoken to.

If we do not hang together, we will certainly hang, separately.

Peace and Love,

Now THAT'S common sense!

Amen my friend, AMEN! VIP hit the nail on the head! (Or should I say the cue ball on the head ball?);)

Nice post from so far away. Lots of members don't post because of the off color, off topic, extra unnecessary info.

Having a forum to chat on isn't what I seek.

I seek information about the intracasies of the game, the different games, the rules, the equipment & how to play better...

I can honestly say that I have made some friends on AZ & the BDCB.... & I have learned some things too.

There needs to be a "board politics" section for those that care to constantly argue and bicker about other posters and the board administration. That way, I can avoid them all together. I swear if you'd put all those people together in a room, there wouldn't be half the problems and arguments. People say they'd do/say the same things, regardless of the anonymity of the internet. If that's the case, I don't think I'd care to meet some of those people in person. Maybe everyone on the board can adopt a "group" New Year's Resolution.....act and treat other people as an adult and with respect.

and this too shall pass ... be patient, there is still a lot of pool knowledge and stories to be told here. Is is unfortunate to experience these flare ups, but they always burn themselves out, imo.

Until this forum gets back to being about pool (instead of drama) then I will continue to view participating in it as a complete waste of time.

Very, very true...

I may be a very new member of this forum, but I've been a member of one or another since the old dial up bulletin board days and this type of thing seems to happen in phases. Things get a little crazy for a while and then it settles down and people get back to the purpose of the board.

Happy New Year! :D

I agree with everything that's being said here. This forum could and should be a great resource. The truth is, it is often used only to bully people and to make fun of others. Pretty easy to do this from behind a key board!
I would love to see this forum redirected to matters specifically related to pool and not personalities. If everyone were a bit more civil and open to honest discussion, many more people would participate and benefit.
Just my thoughts!
