Thanks for the posts guys. I sold atthecat the three nice Joss cues to help finance Leon Sly's cuemaking business. This cue is the top cue.

this was my first 2 piece cue from the 1990s
(my first was an abe rich starr cue 1980s)
its a joss but has no markings
told dan at the time i wanted to be "ingognito" walking into a pool room
its 20 oz and 57 inches (that was standard back then i think)
2 13mm shafts ?aegis ferrules?? not sure
i thought all you joss lovers would like the metal joint protector
dan said they dont make those anymore
(i had sent him the cue 3 -4 years ago because i wanted another with similar balance and "feel")
pics to follow

This is quite Ironic,,,,,,,,,,,only yesterday I began to set up the Joss Cues historical Gallery over on my site

http://www.classifiedbilliards.com/mybb/forumdisplay.php?fid=275

I have set up the first 4 Joss Catalogs so far,,,,,,,it's a monumental task, just as the Schon Cue Gallery is that I'm working on,,,,,,but eventually I hope to get it as complete and as accurate as possible.

Do you guys have model numbers for all those older Joss cues you have, and if so can you include it with your images? This could prove to be quite helpful in the future.

Thanks,,,,,,,,oh, and great Joss there Bobco,,,,,,,,

The old JOSS catalogs are already online on the JOSS web site.

You can find a link to there in my cue identification resources in my signature.

Many of the early models don't have model numbers or names because they were customs.

yeah I have that link,,,,,,actually that's where I have gotten the catalogs from so far,,,,,but let me ask you,,,,,do you think they are pretty complete?
The reason I ask is,,,,Schon has a bunch of stuff on their site as well, but a large portion of stuff I gathered came from other sources.

If the Joss site is pretty much complete,,,,,then I'm wasting my time on it.

What you think Doc?

So far they are fairly complete...but there are more JOSS than that.

The thing about JOSS is a number of cues they made under contract for several distributors are not there as far as I know. They have some of them, but I know there were more.

In addition, I believe there were some very fine, higher end JOSS made in the last 10-15 years exclusively for the Asian market, and they are not there. I once knew how to find them online but that resource is long gone, at least five years. It was an Asian dealer.

Lastly, there are the ones that they made for/with Falcon I think it was and the JOSS made cues for Biago (some were JOSS, many were Asian imports though).

Finding those in catalogs would be nice.

Also, some information about identifying the early joss cues might be helpful. When did they produce the 18 thread cues and how many? Pics of the weight bolts? They used three different bumpers that I know of in their first ten years, what are the specs? The joint ring eras and how and when they changed?

We're talking custom cues through most of the seventies so nailing down when it was made is the thing, not model numbers.

One of the problems I see here in the forums is that almost any older cue with a 14 screw gets called a possible JOSS right away and most often it is incorrect.

It's worthwhile, but I wouldn't put a bunch of work into duplicating what is already done.

One thing you can do is save those catalogs on your hard drive.

I was very upset recently when both Schmelke and Falcon took their catalog and brochure archives offline. The schmelke ones went back to 1970! I only had a few saved. I contacted them about it but have yet to get a response.

I am very interested in organized efforts for ID resources and am in no way territorial about it. If you want help or want to work together on anything I am all for it. I didn't jump in on the Schon thing because I have little interest or knowledge about Schon.

What I have assembled will remain mostly links to other resources and not become a repository itself. I don't want to deal with copyright issues on images and even just the links can require permission from web masters, though I have yet to run into that.

I may be able to provide some insight into older joss cues as well. I have a bunch of catalogs and mess of joss cues. Most mid 80's and earlier.

Great, I'm gonna go ahead and get it set up in a Gallery on my site, just in case they decide to start yanking old catalogs and brochures down. For the un numbered custom models, I'll set up a forum area for member contributions, where they can share their images, specs, history of the cue, etc,,,,,,

I'll be contacting you for info soon Scott. Thanks for offering.
