A new catalog came in the mail today and I was surprised to see some new cues I think by Helmsetter. They now have models called Szamboti, Paradise, Schrager, Willie Hoppe, and Rambow and it says they all come with a certificate of authenticity. The cues are made to look somewhat like the originals. I guess players now will be saying they are playing with a Szamboti or a Paradise cue.

Remember years ago, Adams came out with that Balbushka knock-off with the signature. I saw a gut go off real good for one of those things. Too bad, but he was warned.
No, I'm not saying Helmstetter is trying anything underhanded.

What I don't like is the confusion it causes and the possibility for misuse . I see no reason why a top level custom cue maker who spent their entire lives building a reputation for quality would want their name brandished on a cheap production cue.

Does the literature have a web site or contact?

Here is one, money. A well known brand name has financial equity attached to it. While you probably won't find many living cuemakers licensing their names you will probably see the names of deceased cuemakers being used. Competition Sports and Helmstetter have been aggressive in using the names of legendary cuemakers to market their cues. With no one to stop them this will continue to dillute the equity that is traded among serious cue collectors.

Maybe you cue collectors should petition the ACA to intervene on your behalf. Now, that is funny.
