Lifted finish

Hey everyone I have a cue that the finish is starting to lift. Its just on the butt cap. Now I'm sure I need to wetsand the buttcap down and restoot it, but my question is what is a good clear finish to use? Do I shoot it with a clear coat? polly? lacquer? What do you guys feel would be a good one to use for these older cues?

Hi,

Pick your poison concerning the clear you select. Make sure you don't sand with higher than 320 so your paint has something to hold on to. This is one reason it can lift. There are many other reasons but avoid this one with 320.

Use the proper solvent to wipe down before applying coats. It is always a good idea to use an automotive safe solvent to prevent problems. JMO.

You will have to wet sand with different grits and then buff the cue in steps to get a good luster without scratch marks.

If you don't have this kind of experience, a bag of worms may be in your future. In that case you are better off having a CM do the job for you. It is not that expensive.

KJ Simpson or Ryan (Rat Cues) would be a good choice.

Good Luck,

Rick
