Linen or Leather

I like stack leather the best
 
I don't really like the look of linen and dislike the feel even more. I prefer leather, have no problem with wrapless.

I looked at a sheet of cork when I looked at leathers. I really liked the feel.

I'm sure there are plenty of colors, but the sheet I saw was a flat light brown with black flecks- it just didn't look nice with my cue.

Also, I was worried about chunks coming out- you know how corkboards get little pills and chips? I don't know if wrap sheets do that. Maybe not, though- maybe they're protected? Dunno.

Last, I chalk with my grip hand, not my bridge hand, and I worried that cork might easily absorb chalk from a dirty hand. Leather seemed easier to clean.

Remember when boots had leather laces? Imagine a long leather lace tightly wrapped around the cue, then pressed.

Played with a friend's cue with stacked leather...I liked it, but still think I prefer linen.

Stacked can be seen on the 3rd and 4th cues from the left in the pic above.

I'm normally a wrapless cue guy, but the wrapped cues I do have, are all stack leather (i.e. I've had the linen replaced with stack leather). Here's a video showing what it is, and how it's installed:

It's the closest of all the wraps, to a wrapless feel, except it has that "tack" (grip feeling) of leather.

Thanks for the explanation and video on stack leather.

I have not tried one. I do like my elephant ear embossed leather wrap. Great texture and feel.

I purchased a hoppe Schon and had the opportunity to see both linnen and leather wrapped Schons. In my opinion not only does the leather look better it also feels better.

Leather

Go with leather, all day long. IMO its classier, nicer feel, easy adjustment, would be harder for me to go back to linen. I have several leather wrapped cues, get a leather with some texture...smooth feels cheap to me-I like the textured more

Beautiful Cue. I'm going to Jack my own thread. What is the weight of your Schon. The ones available are 18's. Way too light for me.
 
I have a John Madden custom cue with black leather and after a moderate amount of play over the year or so I've had it the leather is becoming worn where I grip it. Love the feel, not sure about the durability though over time. Maybe it's just the type of leather John used? It's the only leather wrapped cue I have ever used.

Did it. Ordered a (H4L) Schon Hoppe Tribute. Will have it this week. I had to buy it so I can stop thinking about it. :grin:
