is there something i can use to make my wrap less slippery at home or do i have to have it pressed

Pressing will just make it more slick.
Try spinning it in your hand with some very fine sand paper.
VERY FINE SANDPAPER.

I have seen some linen wraps where people have used wax paper on it. I'm not sure how it works in the long run other than being a magnet for dirt.
Do you have a lathe set up at home yet? Put leather.
