I've been happy using the mushroom sander on the sides of the Ultimate Tip Tool.

The Porper mushroom grazer is the best tool I've used that is less than $30. Be careful not to cut the ferrule though. You'll also need to burnish the sides when you're done. You can use a dollar bill and some spit to do that.

I'll second that. The Little Shaver can also take care of your mushroom tip.
Also, the Porper burnisher works great too.
