Little Joe DVD is a winner

overkill

It is great to see a system easy enough for an eleven year old to do, but was it necessary for each shot to be done by every member of the family? Why not have two people shoot the shot? This is a great tape. I knew most of the material, but if you didn't, you got your money's worth. This was a twenty minute lesson stretched to forty five. I believe the makers of these tapea do this because nobody wants to buy a $45 tape that is only twenty minutes. Kinnister does the same thing. He has about 15 tapes stretched out to 60. Why? Because he can sell sixty tapes instead of fifteen. He has students shoot the same shot over and over again until he uses up his time. Great material, but cut out the overkill of seeing the same thing over and over again.

If I remember correctly the DVD has variations on 4 shots that are shot over and over. While I like the shots, most of them are explained better in Tom Rossman's videos and you get more in Rossmans videos. Just like most pool videos, this one does not explain that you need to reverse the shot if you were on the other side of the table. He sets a ball on the long rail, wants to kick 2 rails to the corner and says to use 10:30 english. Does a newbie know to use 1:30 if he was shooting the other way? Just a pet peeve about pool videos in general when they don't reference running english vs reverse english. This one is well made and the graphics help a lot. I am waiting patiently for his CUE BALL CONTROL DVD he talks about in the video

I agree with Hemicudas assesment that Joe's "system" almost certainly requires repetition of the shots. Not only to show the various ways to manipulate the "clock" to get to different destinations, but like many other pool players, I don't take a portable DVD player into the pool hall with me and since each different kick takes a different "time" on the clock, seeing each shot several times helps to remember them better. For those of you who've seen the DVD, what good would it be to know where to aim the shot if you can't remember the corresponding time?

Also, I will be viewing Tom Rossman's video shortly for the first time. I've seeing others posting about it and how they think it is better. I can't say one way or the other about it's content since I've not seen it yet. It would be nice if other people posting afforded Lil' Joe the same courtesy. If you've seen it and have confusion, feel free to post your 2 cents, but don't denegrate something you haven't seen.

As Joe has told me, he's very impressed with the number of people who have posted their "rave" reviews, but all it takes is 1 person posting badly about a video they may not have seen to prevent selling a copy to another pool player that may benefit greatly from it.

I will post again after I've seen Rossman's video to pass along my opinion about it and describe what it covers compared to Lil' Joe's. Again, this is all my opinion based on all the facts I can speak for.

Yeah, I got my copy a week ago, and it had some really good stuff in it. Easy methods for kicks I would have judged by eye before I got this video.

I don't have time or proper equipment to practice the kicks right now, but will definitely use the DVD more when I get back home.

Also, the Benke's (sp?) are great people! They sent goodies to the soldiers in Iraq! :D
