Living in Pool Rooms (literally)

Over the past 10 years or so, i have known of at least 4 pool halls with people living in them-and im not counting employees. One place had 2 guys in the basement for 3 years- no windows either.

Waterdog lived in a couple that i know of when he was in this area. He set off the alarm one night too when he stirred a bit too far from his roost.

I dont know any deli or dollar shop with permanent residents.Pool Halls seem to be the place.

I don't really have any good stories about this but i figure there must be some good ones out there. Let's hear'm

At a poolhall that is now closed down, years ago it had these bleachers by the staircaise that were perfect places for someone to crash on. The seats were padded, and plus the place was 24 hours. One night there was a homeless guy sleeping in there, and some of the pool hall regulars decided to play a prank by pouring mustard all over the guy. They poured it inside his shoes, all over his clothes, I felt so bad for the guy. He had no place to go and was just trying to steal a nap in a warm room for a while, not bothering anyone. So this guy wakes up as one of the guys is squirting mustard on his hat and he tackles the guy. Security broke it up and kicked the homeless guy out. It was kind of funny though, because the guy who poured the mustard all over the bum looked even worse. Most of the stuff on the bum had rubbed off on him and it ruined his brand new shirt. LOL

i guess it would be too much to ask if they showered and brushed their tooth.

Stuff like that is ignorant, a bum sleeping in a pool hall has a hard enough life as it is without some asshats doing some dumbass thing like that to the guy. The ruined shirt was probably worth alot less to the regular then the damage to what was likely the only clothes the bum had to his name. People need to wake the fuck up and think for a second that they are actually doing shit like that to someones kid, someones possible father, someones possible loved one that fell on hard times for a reason they could not even fathom simply by looking at the guy. There is no way I would have simply stood by while someone did that.

You took the words right out of my mouth, Celtic. It is just sad that they would do that to another human. We are all just a bad choice or a bit of bad luck away from being in that tough position. Love your brother, you don't have to take him home of give him $, but dont F with him for your entertainment either.

At an old bar where I played tons of pool, there was a guy who was temporarily living under the pool table. Before you feel sorry for him, know that it was not a barbox, but an 8-footer. Wow, living high on the hog.

This guy would be sleeping there during business hours! I can't imagine how he kept the clamor from driving him crazy, but he did. It could've been the massive amounts of chemicals ingested, I suppose.

Apparently, he upgraded to a 9-footer in a better neighborhood.

you never know ...

You never know what will happen in the future, and most people are not so
financially secure where they couldn't just be a step or two away from
really hard times. Those type of people should be shown compassion and caring. You never know when 1 small gesture of kindness could be the one
that saves a person's life or turns it around for the better.

Celtic's GOT IT RIGHT!

I agree w/ Celtic 100%

I have been LUCKY in my life to be able to move (not too far) away from pool and start a business that provides for Me & Mine.
There was quite a few times in the 70's that I slept under a Gold Crown (even then, I had my standards) but it usually was because I was with Louie and we hadn't got a room before we entered the poolroom. I wasn't stupid enough to just leave Louie playing with OUR money, Soooooooo.
A couple of times it was because NO ONE WAS LEAVING BECAUSE OF THE SNOW. I remember one of the best nights sleep and romances of my life was under a Gold Crown during a snowstorm in a ND. Poolroom. Over 2 feet of snow and it was just me, about 5 other players & bettors (in another room) and the owners 24 year old DAUGHTER.

I have learned that life has a funny way of evening things out and I ALSO KNOW THAT if fate found me in a position (I'LL never say Never), where I needed to get some rest under a table - I would be welcomed in about all the poolrooms that are over 30 years old.

I can only hope that that Mustard Guy would show up.

And these two guys... were they older fellows living in the basement of a certain establishment in Westchester owned by a guy named George?

If those guys werent psychotic gangbangers with tats from head to toe I'm sure I would have said something. It's easy to say that if you were there you would have done something. I'm sure if you were there, you wouldn't even have to weigh the options of getting severely beaten/stabbed/shot or not trying to be a hero and turning your head the other way. I am positive you would have approached the 4 or 5 gangbangers who have cigarette burns on their arms probably for each time they shot someone and slapped the mustard bottle out of his hand and cussed them all out. Then, dramatic music would start playing as they all reached for their guns, and the camera would zoom in on their faces showing how angry they all are. Then happy music would start playing as the leader of the pack looks you in the eye and nods, and says "he's cool" and they all shake your hand showing respect to you because you showed them no fear. As the gang members walk out the door, everyone in the place starts to applaud and the homeless guy thanks you. The ending credits start playing and I puke.

Or I would just wake the bum up. I am sure the "regulars" of the pool hall that the OP spoke were actually heroin dealing psychos with tribal scarring who ritually circumsize themselves with a rusty butter knife and no anasthetic to prove their aversion to pain. You are a putz LastTwo.

scott, well said. Thank you for saying what everyone in this world should say.

All I can say is you had to be there before you can say anything. If those guys werent violent criminals I am sure myself and many other people present would have done or said something. I'm just being honest and saying I'm not about to risk my life over someone getting mustard on his clothing. You wouldn't either, which is why I think you are an even bigger 'putz' because you are jerking yourself off in front of everyone pretending that you would actually intervene. Again, I guarantee you wouldn't have done jack SQUAT. Oh, and by the way, you are right. There is just no way that violent gangbangers/criminals would ever hang out at a poolhall. They have much more taste than that. Especially in California! I mean, that is probably the last state to have any gangs anyways

You must be smoking some goooooood stuff.

You were not there either but then you "guarantee" I would not have done anything as if you are now assuming these pool hall regulars were clearly gangbangers. I think I am probably closer to the accurate image of the guys who did this then you are with your idea that they are spawn of satan who just so happen to amuse themselves with a mustard bottle and get tackled by the bum when he wakes up and attacks them. And you cannot guarantee shit, you dont know me LastTwo just as much as I dont know you. You could be the biggest fucking poindexter geek weighing a whole 94.5 pounds and wearing glasses that make an antique coke bottle seem thin or you could be a 300 pound thug who in actuality one day poured mustard all over this bum and then got tackled and had to be saved by the staff who kicked the bum out of the pool hall.

Your tough guy attitude combined with your chicken shit approach to life where you wont stand up for decency or morals is comical. I guess I came from better stock then you and people who stick up for themselves and the others that cannot stick up for themselves. I will continue to do so regardless of what a useless tit like you has to say about it LastTwo.

One of lifes lessons is treating people with respect, atleast, until they have proved they don't deserve respect. I think they call it the Golden Rule, it's been around since people sat at the first camp fire and pondered life...
Another one of lifes lessons is 'it all comes back' and I think it is refered to as Karma. The mustard guy will pay down the road and this is as it should be. The people on the side lines either improved themselves or deminished themselves by what they took away from the event. There are alot of studid cruel people out there but you don't have to be one of them.

(snip)QUOTE]

Actually, as indicated in another thread, morality didn't exist in humans until about 2500 years ago when consciousness became the normal mode of thinking. This is an important thing to know when analyzing history. More info on this theory and the book that started it all:

Jaynes's hypothesis found little acceptance among mainstream academics

I dont agree with the theory that morality did not exist in humans until 2500 years ago in the slightest, that is another one of those theoretical musings that an academic who wants to make a name for himself can throw out there that is totally unprovable and completely open to subjective reasoning and irrefutable by objective facts. You can chalk that guy right up there next to Erich Von Daniken, another self proclaimed academic who knows damn well that his "theories" are bogus but they sell books to the ignorant and amazed public so he keeps churning them out.
