Long Story Short.....

My sister asked me to go see a table for her basement. We went and seen a real well made cheep table. It has no name anywhere on it anywhere, it is the most solid 7ft er home table ive ever seen. its all wood and steal reinforced. I took it apart and took it to her house and left it there for the pro to come and set it up and level it. Well thanks to "Brother In Law" when the mechanic got there he called me and asked me for the old cushions , comes to find out B-n-Law cut off the old rubber to save the installer some time and threw them out. The Installer said he would guess at the angle of the cuts but no promises. Well now the side pockets are so wide you can almost fit 3 balls in the hole at once. He said all he could do is follow the angle of the cut on the rail. I played for an hour on the table before we bought it and it played realy well just had dead rubber on it. After i called the mechanic back he said if i could find out what kind of table it was he could probly get the angles for the cuts on the new rubber. So now what do i do , is the installer a Hack or does every installer need the old rubber to copy the cut angles.

What should i do now, pay for new rubber to be installed and try to figure out a better angle or try to shim the side pockets and use the rubber there now?
Thanks in advance

As a rule you cut new cushion rubber along the angle of the rail ends so there really is no guessing on a stock rail. Do you know if he installed the cushion facings on each end of the cushions? If I had to guess I'd say he butchered the cushion cuts and possibly didn't install the facings resulting in wider pocket openings. Measure the openings of the 4 corner pockets and see if they are identical. Do the same with the 2 sides. If the corners or the sides aren't the same the cushions weren't done correctly.

Post up some pics of the table and maybe someone can recognize it. Some closer-up pics of the pocket would help too. Hate to say it but a new set of cushions and facings seems to be in your future.
