Having difficulty getting shafts to fit properly. Every shaft ordered causes significant wobble that cue is unusable. I have two of their cues and was told to send back to Italy for "repair", I did this and it came back same. They are telling me I need to sand down the screws on the shaft but that doesn't work. Anybody else have this problem?

Hi Dean,

If it were me I would consider 3 options from least expensive to most expensive;

a. pipe tape ( used to snug up gas fittings together )
b. Ozone resides in Georgia...they are a Longoni dealer..call them and see what kind of shaft selection they have ...and take a road trip.
c. buy a new cue from a new line called Caromm carom cues from your old buddy Steve from Traffic Control Caroms.

Might be that there is something wrong on the Butt end of the cue? Perhaps the threads inside the butt side of the joint is askew?

If the shaft is straight its all you really need.
Just don't roll it in front of anybody, until you kick they're butt with a crooked cue.

i hate to say this but sometimes the female threading in the butt is not dead center on the butt.
this is why the butt rolls true, this is also why a shaft will roll true by it's self, but when attached together the shaft will have a little extra sticking out to the sides at the joint and this causes it to not roll true when assembled.
you can measure the threads to the edge distance with a caliper to verify this.
i still have a longoni mod b/s butt that has this issue. there is no fix.

Well,

If you already sent the cue in for repair and got that kind of service. I'd be tempted to write Longoni off. It's pretty difficult and expensive dealing with Italy.

I play with a Helmstetter, but recently a friend of mine ordered a Layani Cue and I really like it. It's the base model and only cost a little over $400. The Layani joint is really good. They hit very solid. Here's a link to a US dealer. http://www.caromcue.com/products/carom-cues/layani-cues.html

If your Longoni is really expensive, maybe you could have a cuemaker that uses wood threads plug and re-thread the butt. Ron Kilby makes cues like this. Maybe you could ask his opinion. He's a very good cue maker, and highly regarded. Here's the contact info from his website: (541) 245-4530

Best of luck!

Darrell,

Do me a favor. Go to my site and look through the buffet of choices in the Caromm Cue line. Go to Worx if you need more choices. If you like a model but it has an irish linen wrap..I'll have it made in whatever wood you want instead. You can design your own cue if you want. You can have Tiger make the mm shaft in the right stiffness and low deflection if you want. It's like Burger King's slogan. You can have it your way!
