Looking at object ball last on break shots

I’ve been taught that on regular shots, your eye pattern should fall on the object ball last but that on a break shot, you should be looking at the cue ball at the point you contact it with the cue. Looking at the cue last on break shots has been my practice for several years and I’ll admit, my break is probably the weakest part of my game. Last night I was playing and I switched to settling on the head ball of the rack last instead of the cue. I noticed a remarkably improved break all evening. I know you can make a case for doing what works and I’ll need to play around with it for more than one night but, that said, on the break, is having your eye fall last on the cue ball or object ball generally more advisable. I usually break a couple of inches from the centerline in 8 ball and aim for the head ball and about three inches from the second diamond of the long rail in 9 ball. I’d like to hear everyone’s views. Thanks.

I pick a spot on the rail behind the rack that forms a line from CB through center of head ball and concentrate on that spot if I’m going for a square hit with power. If going for a cut or softer break I concentrate on OB

100% object ball. I haven't looked at the cueball for at least a couple of warmup strokes at that point.

I look at where I’m aiming to. Just like when shooting. And stand more upright than on a normal shot. Definitely not the CB last. That might not end well for someone, cause it would totally throw me off target.
I discovered years ago, (by accident) that standing more upright gives me noticeably more power on the break.

Not what you asked but consider moving around a bit if your break isn’t working.

I recently switched to looking at the cue ball on break shots. Works great for me. I have always looked at the object ball for every other shot though.

My broken record comment for break discussion:
Cole Dixon(the guy they called when the break and run pot got to $10,000) taught me that precision was more important than velocity. He broke with water buffalo on ivory. His shooter for the precision.
Cue ball last is now my method on all shots. Jump, kick and banks are shots that I had to look cue ball last even when I played object ball last. My earliest achievements in pool were object ball last. My transition is covered in a thread titled
Experiments in looking at the cue ball while delivering the stroke

I got pretty far in your prior thread. Thanks for sharing it. It looks like things got a little heated but that’s okay.

I started looking at the cb last on break shots, jump shots, massé shots, and jacked up shots. It makes a difference.
