Looking at your tip while chalking????

Do you bet your own?

Do you have your own to bet?

Want to match up playing (even) something other than BankPool?

You ain't talking to kids.

ONB,
Really? I had to read this three times to check that you were not joking? I know I teased MD about the way he chalked (in fairness I did call his game world class) but that is SO OFFSIDE! John's a big boy and can defend himself but this is so so so out of order.

You want to call him out? PM him. He might just lube up and "pleasure" you.

What does this have to do with chalking a tip???

I think the point was: don't emulate or even worry about what the 'pros' do.

Hopefully tongue in cheek to a degree, I think the brumback guy might know what to do with a pool ball, at least enough to give an old 9 baller a strong dose.

Am I the only one who looks at their tip when they chalk up? I never see the pros do it. I always look and make sure the chalk is spread evenly with no "large" dots of chalk. Every one else justs rubs the chalk and shoots.

Wait................. People on here use chalk?

I don't care how you do it. Just don't do it like Mike Dechaine. World class talent. C- chalker.

Hell, if chalking like him would make me play like him, I'd do it that way...

I don't take chalking the tip as just something to do with your hands while you are thinking. It has to be done correctly and paid attention to.

I never see the pros go to work.

I never see the pros have money.

I never see the pros own their own home.

I never see the pros own a new car.

I never see the pros have a wife & family they take care of.

I never see the pros with a retirement fund or health insurance.

Don't worry about what the so-called pros do, they don't know anything.

ONB

They go to work when they play.

You don't know the right pros because some of then have money.

Kelly Fisher bought two houses. SVB invests in real estate. Scott Frost just bought a house.

maybe you don't look hard enough because I know pros who have both health insurance and retirement savings.

but beyond all that if there IS for sure one thing the pros have that is worth looking up to it is how they play pool.

That post should never be allowed on a pool forum........ever......,even if it is the truth. Unless you just want to just hear from bangers and know-it alls, that can't run a rack of 9 ball or 8 ball on a bar table. But that's pool and it will stay in the gutters,oh well...John B.
Agree. And people wonder why pros don't like to post here.

THE BEST POST ON AZ IN A LONG TIME!

Rep coming your way for telling it like it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
really? so onb has access to all the pros financials?

seems like a pretty shitty knock to me.

especially when there are quite a lot of professional players making a decent living.

seems more to me that someone got up on the wrong side of the bed.

I thought that when I first read the post. But I've since read some of his previous posts and he likes to not only put a downer on everything, he seems to think what he says goes, and he can't ever be wrong. Comes across as a bitter old man who has nothing better to do.

+1

Who cares what a pros finances are like? Who cares if they have a balanced life off the table? Surely the point of this forum is playing pool. They tend to be pretty good at that.

To answer the original question, I'm pretty sure I glance at the tip when I chalk.

I agree that one thing has nothing to do with the other

having said that, the post above referencing the overwhelming minority is just as laughable, not sure how long u been in the game son, too much time in china maybe, lol

John has a nice home plus a great wife and family. If you two ever match up in 9 ball, 10 ball or whatever and you have extra to bet, I'll take some of that action on John. You're painting with a very wide brush and making a fool of yourself.

That guy isn't going to play John Brumback anything for money. He would have to identify himself.

"Am I the only one who looks at their tip when they chalk up?"

I always look and I rub it in there real good too, with some pressure.
Lot's of people just swipe the chalk across the tip and barely touch it but I add pressure.

This is a great thread.

I for one, am a chalk swiper and cannot stand to see chalk marks on a ferrule. However, I would trade my limited ability for a bad chalking habit.

NOW YOU KIDS GET OUT OF MY YARD!!!

I also use the swipe method and will usually glance at the tip when I've got the butt end rested on the floor. If it's my first shot of the inning or I've got a shot that requires spin, I'll make sure I've got a good "base coat". But I sometimes hold the cue like many do so I can walk and chalk. In these cases I just swipe once or twice without looking. I don't ever grind or twist chalk and because of this I get 2-3 times more life out of a cube than those that do. I also don't always chalk between every shot.

+1 to looking at it...I also cringe when I see the chalking techniques of some people just jamming the tip on the chalk lol!

I put it between my feet and rotate my cue through it. Works like a charm but I can't quite figure out why people look at me funny.
