Ive been pretty lazy in looking for a cue maker.

Im looking for something pretty plain for AZ billiards standards and Id like some input on who to contact or if someone was interested and could give some input on my basic ideas of the cue that would be great. Ive already posted in the Ask the Cue Maker forum and I hoped that with this section being much more active that I would have better results.

This is what Im looking for:
ebony and ivory idea, maybe a bit of silver throw into the mix NOT ACTUAL IVORY, BORDER ISSUES, also can be a plain maple stained black
18 OZ
with a wrap. maybe white leather?
4-6 points in the top part, whatever you prefer to make, mine has 4 and its pretty nice looking. Some sort of design in the handle section, towards the butt, maybe low points?
in the points, I want black and white, can you do that? maybe a set of 4, W | B | W | B?
black wood, or something very dark but not brown.
Predator 314-2

Ive been in contact with a member of the board through various emails but contact has seemed to be gone on his end. His loss I guess?

If you are a cue maker, let me know if you are able to make this and your input on the things I am looking for. PM is best on here. Or post in this thread.

If you are NOT a cue maker and have some input on either who should make this or ideas on what is too difficult or too basic on my requests, also please post.

Thanks very much for your time,

Hey Dan-
I was in a similar situation like you with some ideas about my playing cue and a break stick. Since I live in Atlanta, I had the benefit of contacting Mike Gulyassy who is about 90 minutes away in South Carolina. I spoke with him on the phone about some of my initial ideas and he said to come up to his shop. After about 5 hours of going over different patterns and materials I ended up with one of the most beautiful cues. Also, with Mike being an excellent player, he also has the knowledge to know what a player is looking for with the feel of their cue and how it hits.
Mike is currently making me another playing cue out of gaboon ebony from Africa and mother of pearl inlays. Can't wait for this one to be finished.
The key when you have various ideas like you have about what you are looking for is to have the cuemaker also see that vision and add some ingrediants that you might not have thought of. Plus because of Mike's experience, he knows what will work and what won't.
Having a cuemaker that will take the time to listen to your thoughts and offer suggestions to me is invaluable.

Good Luck with your cue project. Stevie G

Thank you for your input, I will try and find out some info on Mike.

Thanks again!

I am working on a deal with Jimmy Lee of JD Customs. He is a very polite and knowlagable person to deal with. Also about the most rasonable in piriceing that I have found. He has a very short turn around time. Give him a call at 821-654-1400.

I would suggest you contact Joe Callaluca or Shawn Putnam here on the forum they both do great work and are fantastic to work with .

Good luck with what ever you get .

Mike Gulyassy's website.

I have sent Mike an email and got a reply, he threw a few ideas at me and a couple photos. The one specific he had in mind was really beautiful, just a little fancy for what I was looking for. Very quick reply, very happy with that.

Im also open to having multiple cues made, since it takes a while. I'll probably just keep the one we like the best.

Keep the ideas coming and thanks for the posts.

I would also like to point out that I am not set on having actual Ivory since I live in the great white north and I might have troubles getting it across the border. I would also be fine with any wood as long as we get it to look very dark, even if its just a plain maple stained black.

One issue you're going to have is getting an ebony cue in the weight you've asked for. Ebony is heavy, and the only way to keep an ebony cue under 19 ounces is to have a cored forearm, or use a maple forearm that is painted black.

As for the "white" stuff, holly will look OK. You could also get some form of ivorine or micarta inlays. One of the issues you are going to have is finding the cue you are looking for with the budget you have in mind. I know you probably don't want to break the bank on this one, and most "custom" makers are going to charge you around $700 and up for what you are looking for.

If you have a price range in mind, PM me and I'll give you a few sources for the cue you're looking for. How long are you willing to wait for the cue?
