Looking for a cue under 100$

Dude,, bigbox stores ?? Really ?? wtf you talking about. You can buy directly from Schmelke, or go to just about any internet store and buy a schmekle cue, or go to quite a few pool rooms and buy a schmekle. Who is being put out of business by buying a schmelke cue ??

You agreed with the other guy about buying a Schmelke cue from the Billiard Warehouse and that the search was over.

I'd say Billiard Warehouse, Seyberts and all the others are big box stores.

Another reason pool rooms and small billiard businesses go out of business. The little guy can not compete with big box stores.

Feeling a little insecure about yourself?

First cue I ever bought was a rose wood sneaky pete by players. Held up for a long time but warped when I left it in my car by accident one cold winter night. Too bad I bought it a year before Players came out with the life long warranty.....sigh. Pretty much all the Players cues I ever used were all great for the price and not a bad entry level cue.

I have had a lot of sneakys and custom cues in the 50 years I've played pool. I once had a few Schmelkes and they eventually warped. I used to recommend them but have stopped. I really can suggest looking carefully at pawn shops. Roll the entire cue and each of the two parts on their glass counter. Check the cue for soundness by putting the cue together and hitting it against the heel of your hand just below the joint. Feel solid with no buzz ? Check the ferrule for cracks. Do you like the balance and taper of the shaft ? 58" long and 18-19.5 oz ? Tip looks ok ? Does the joint match up smoothly ?

Last but not least, if players offers a lifetime warranty that is worth it's weight in gold ! Can't go wrong there if you like the cue...Tom

pool cue for close to $100

Go to this website, call the phone number, ask to speak to Justin about used pool cues that are available. I know it is not as sexy as a brand new pool cue, but you might get a cue that is 5X better construction and playability, you may even get a used LD shaft and a good tip.

$100 cue thatis new, you'll be disapointed in the long run unfortunately.

And if he has no billiard store around him? i have 1 where i am at and they dont even carry rhe brand that i own. I hope you dont shop at walmart, kmart, meijer, as there are plenty of stores with the same peoduct.

The op is on an extremely tight budget and can get the same cue for a lower price so why not? If i had told the op to buy directly from schmelke would you still have made your dumb post?

I have a 30 or so year old schmelke that is dead straight and plays very well. That is why i recommended them. :)

And which comment was dumb? A small dealer can beat a big box store's price every time.

I've been looking at a lot of cues lately, and i'm truly leaning towards the HXT cue. I have to say that, honestly, schmelke cues are really just too ugly lol.

I'm still hesitant to order just yet though, i'm not 100% if it's the cue I want..

I'm leaning to ordering new because the fact that I can get a (lifetime with players) warranty compared to a used cue.

Thanks for all the tips so far guys, i'm still open to, and would appreciate any more opinions.

or...... and I won't be very popular for saying this but..... Hit ebay up and look for Dale Perry....

I did look into the dale perry cue's, but they're selling for more than what my budget can afford.

I recently stumbled upon the McDermott Star S11 cue, it's a few dollars out of my budget, and I probably won't spend this much, but it's definitely the nicest looking cue i've seen for the price.

I understand a pool cue is mostly about personal preference, but on the same token there are obviously better features to some cues.. there's my disclaimer for the following question, lol..

What would be a better cue, the Players HXT30, or the McDermott S11?

thanks guys

They are both made in China. the quality should be about the same.Pretty good for the money.
the Mcdermott is a decal cue and the Players is not.

Did you look at the Sneaky's from Schmelke? I know some of their designs are funky but they all play well. I have a sneaky with one ding in it (clear coat finish only) and an upgraded layered tip. I also have a wine stained colored Schmeke with linen wrap. I would sell them both for $100 shipped. PM me if interested.

Star cues look nice, but they are decal cues, although designed by McD, they are not MADE by them. Same for the other cheap cue range they have.

That Puhlre (<--- sp?) link that was posted may be a nice way to go, a fully custom cue for not a lot of money at all. If you go with the HXT cues, I suggest one of the wood to wood or plastic joints vs the metal ones, will have a more natural hit. I bought my son this model http://www.seyberts.com/products/Players_HXTE10_Pool_Cue-102578-10161.html and players that have $500-1,000 custom sticks (me included) thought it played and had as nice or a hit feel as good as the more expensive stuff. And it looks nice in person.
