Looking for a New Cue

I'm currently looking into buying a new cue. I've got a Viking (F98) and a Dominiak WD1020, but am looking for an upgrade to a nicer cue. More of a treat to myself, as I finally have some cash to spend. Looking in the 400-600 range.

From the cues I've hit with (Not much, not much beyond cheaper Mcdermotts and one or two lower end Joss's - kinda rural area) I prefer a lighter cue (18.5 - 19 oz) with a 3/8 10 wood-wood joint. Looking for a cue with a classic look, something around a 4 pointer with lighter colors and a linen wrap, and maybe a few rings.

Right now I'm leaning, from the research I've done, towards ordering a Frey SP with a wrap, but would like to solicit some opinions - especially as I've never seen one of those, much less hit with one. Any suggestions/reccomendations?

I think a Frey SP would be just fine. You will have a lot of people on here offering you cues after your post. They will tell you this should be in the "Wanted/For Sale section also. I don't mind myself. The one thing I would suggest is that you find someone who will let you test hit the cue before making a final decision. You can't go wrong with the Frey. Check out Cues "N" Things web page. Or PM JP here on AZ. He is a Frey distributor and will probably give you a decent deal. Tell him the "Purdman" sent ya.:D

Buying a New Cue

Hi, Cephalus,
I welcome you to look at my website and see if any of the cues there excite you enough to have more information. There are several in your price range and definitely they play better than the cues you listed. They are all one of a kind customs not models numbers. Hope to talk to you soon.

I would recommend a Szamboti or a joss.
He said a CUE not a shaft. :D

He's gonna get 20 different suggestions .
3/8, four points in the $400-600 range?

You can get a real nice josey s/p in that price range. Keith Josey is a great guy and great to due business with. IMO this would be the way to go.

hi

I had Viking and played with Joss.

Go with Mezz, I have it and I love it!

They have new line with Mezz but and Predator shafts.

They are top quality!

I represent a small father/son cue operation out of WV, Bob/Larry Thompson. Every cue they make is one of a kind. They build their cues with a 3/8X10 pin and mate a micata insert into the shaft to make an incredible hitting cue. Lowest deflection of any cue I have ever played with. These cues will be at the upper tier of your budget but you will have an outstanding original cue. here is a pic of some of the cues that I have available;

Some of the cues pictured may have been sold since then so be sure to contact me if you see something that you would like to know more about. I can provide more detailed pic's also.

Thanks

here's a nice ebony and cocobolo wrapless joe callaluca with a buckhorn joint and joe's new ferrule system:
