Looking for a solid American cue

New cue from @CGiuli arrived when I was home for lunch - it is stunning! Having the table re-leveled, new cushions and cloth next week, so a full workout will have to wait a few days but feels perfect.

Rhino shafts fit perfectly. I did add a 13gr weight over the pin to get the balance I wanted, also have an 8 gr weight that I use on another cue. I don't use the weight with their Ultra shafts. I play with the Ultra shafts, but I bought a Rhino shaft for a backup. I's a really nice shaft. When my wife stole my Jacoby from me, she wanted the Rhino shaft on like she uses on her Schon, but wanted it to feel the same, so I slipped a weight over the pin. Simple, simple, sadly she loves it now so I don't think I am getting it back, or I should say I won't get it back till I buy another cue, and then she will like that one, ha ha.
As to why she likes the carbon shaft, because she doesn't have to wear a glove, a.nd it's nice and slippery. The Rhino plays very similar to the Ultra shaft.
Edit, Jacoby also make a great carbon quick release extension, pricy, but fantastic.
Well, that was quick, wife was shooting yesterday in a side tmt where they are holding the WPBA this weekend by me, and Jacoby always has their booth there. Stopped to look at what cues they had and wouldn't you know they had a no wrap I liked.
After the wife was done we went over to look at it and wouldn't you know she says she really liked it, and if I bought that, I could have mine back. I just laughed and told Jacoby I wanted to think overnight on the cue.
We went back today to try it and see if I could make the deal I wanted, also friends of ours were in some team tmts.
I was thinking of trying a Kielwood shaft and this gave me the perfect opportunity to get the Kielwood shaft instead of another Ultra shaft. Tried it with my ultra shaft and while I wanted a 30" Kielwood 12.75, all they had there was a 29" 11.8, so i tried it with that but put a 13g weight ring between the shaft and butt to have a better idea of how I would use it. Made the deal and now I have two Jacoby no wraps. He thinks they have the shaft I want at the shop and will call Monday, if not, they will have to make one for me. They also switched out the bumper for me to the Quick release one so that I can use the quick release Jacoby extension we already have. It's the 4th cue from the right, in the rack.

Based on the several factors, I always assumed that GIULI contracted JOSS to make his cue line, to his design. JOSS has done that for others in the past, so that would not shock me. Nothing wrong with it at all.
I've heard rumors that Joss does build them. However, they are just a rumors. I wonder if anyone has seen the man's shop? I know I would love to see it. It has to be impressive. He sure has lots of cues for sell for a one man shop. Only he knows for sure.

The Viking Carmeli cues look incredible for the money.
Yes, a Viking Carmeli (has a 3/8x10 pin) or a Jacoby with a 3/8x10 pin would be a solid hitter. I like the way the 3/8x10 pin threads vs the radial pin, but that is probably just me...

The Jacoby has a radial pin. I don't feel the pin itself has anything to do with the hit of a cue. The joint material, possibly I think, some say no, I guess that's a debatable thing.
I have 4 cues with a 3/8x10 pin, 3 McDermotts, one DZ custom.
2 Jacobys with radial, 4 5/16x14 Schons, also a few 5/16x18's.
The crispist hitting cues are the 5/16x14 Schons, all 4 of them, using the same shafts as on the Jacobys, carbon, and laminated wood. Also same tips, shaft diameter and taper.
The smoothest shaft hit, McDermotts, by a big margin. You almost don't feel yourself hit the ball. I feel that is all shaft related with the McDermotts and their Gcore shaft.

Good looking cue, I really like those rings a lot!

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to add another American-made cue to my collection , something from Jacoby, Schön, or Joss.

I’m not interested in custom makers right now, prices have gotten a bit out of hand lately, and most wait lists are just too long for what I’m after.

I’m mainly looking for a cue built with high-quality woods and materials, something that offers solid construction, consistent playability, and a good balance between feedback and power.

Between those brands, which one do you think delivers the most “honest” hit or best overall value?

Appreciate any input or first-hand experience you guys can share.

You can get quite a few actual custom cues for the prices of many of cues from the makers you listed, for sure used. Several of them sell have things on here they are selling. The Newsherifintown guy has many cues I liked and at reasonable prices.

Now someone else tossing out thinly veiled accusations - seems more than a little odd and inappropriate. If you know something for a fact spit it out otherwise peddling rumors and suggesting things you can't back up just isn't cool.

Having said that, I've got a cue Pat Diveney made for me and I've actually been to his shop a couple of times and you wouldn't believe the numbers of cues and parts of cues sitting around there if I had a picture to post, but I wouldn't have needed him to send me a picture of his shop to know he makes cues, lol, or be questioning whether someone else fashioned all the inventory and product he has all over the place just because there's a lot of it. Elves, must be elves (my Diveney is somewhat magical, maybe elves were involved, okay by me).

Limited opportunity to test so far indicates the Giuli I received is a high quality cue and meets my expectations for performance (lol, no high level player here but know what I like) and I'd recommend to anyone else looking for a good cue as someone did in this thread, which is what led me to this one.
