Looking for help on LD shaft for Schon.

The stock shaft feels fine but it deflects a lot. I however am looking for a LD shaft for my Schon.

I prefer a stiffer shaft and the LD properties are not as important compared to the feel of the shaft. However I still want to take advantage of technology and get some LD benefits from a shaft.

I have tried the OB classic on a different pin and think that might be the route for me. I know some have said that tried the Tiger X-Ultra they felt good. Not sure how stiff they are.

I did buy a Mezz WD700 and it does perform well. However I am really looking for a 12.75mm tip. For me, I found the WD700 to be more whippy than what I would prefer.

So I guess the question is, what other shaft feels similar to the OB classic. Please note if you think it is stiffer or more whippy. Maybe there is something between the WD700 and the OB classic. I might take a shot at something like that.

I believe Schon makes a version of the OB with the Schon logo on it. Some people like the feel of a 314 on a Schon.

Myself, I like the original Schon shafts.

Like the last poster stated, Schon is making OB and OB classics with not only their name, but with their collar. They should match up just like any Schon shaft.

Have you tried the Jacoby Hybrid? I've got one to fit a Schon. Sounds like the right size & feel for you.

Schon Shaft vs Low Deflection

I am shooting with a Schon STL4 and simply love the cuestick. At first, I shot with the Schon Shafts with ivory ferrules and a Sniper tip. I then went to a LD shaft(s).

I have only used Predator shafts so this post is a little bias; however, I really like the results. I have a Z Shaft (11.75 mm) with a Sniper tip and use it for 14.1, One Pocket, etc. I use the 314-2 (12.5 mm) for 9 ball and also love the hit. For the first year, I used a Sniper tip on the 314 but am in the process of trying out the Kamui Black tip with so far, excellent results. I should mention both shafts are 30 inches but this doesn't seem to make the shafts whippy IMO.

It may take a little time for you to adjust to a LD shaft, but when you do, you will notice a difference (hopefully for the better) in your game.

Best of luck to you and let us know what you decide upon.

Yeah, I am aware of Schon doing the OB's.
I guess that is one reason I am leaning that way.
However I was looking for something maybe close to the OB.
Would that be the the Jacoboy edge?

I tried the Edge maybe 2+ years ago, and only for a few minutes.
I did not try the OB classic until a good year after that.

What I can recall is that I was not in love with it at that time. However I am not that same player for 2 years ago. My game has evolved.

Has anyone hit the Edge and the OB classic recently to give a more specific comparrison?

If LD is not you main goal but feel is get a Tiger X-Ultra. My cue is an early 90's Schon with stock 13mm shafts. Like you stock shafts have to much squirt but feel very solid.

I bought a 314-2, it is great for LD properties but it is not solid. That plus the taper is to weak. I tried the OB's but not the classic. Aside from the hideous glue and grain lines they resembled the Predator.

In my case I wanted near the same as you but probably not for all the same reasons. I actually wanted more squirt than the OB and Pred. Like you I wanted a solid feel. The OB & pred are ok but ok isn't good enough. I don't care for pro type tapers. I like a stiffer taper (read conical type).
The Z2 is stiffer but the tip is to small. I guess OB has a similar shaft but never tried it.

The Tiger X-Ultra has a little more squirt than Pred Ect and far less that stock. It is a very solid strong taper shaft. It does not have a hollow feel. They splice them clean, very faint lines etc. Mine is 30 inches, the extra inch comes in handy since I'm short and older. LOL If you want specs on the taper I can measure at different points. To bad most mfgs don't put this in writing to give to us discriminating buyers. I would strongly suggest you consider this shaft based on what you are looking for.

I've used both Z2 and 314-2 with my Schon cues, the hit is a little different at first but I am very used to it now. Maybe because I've been using them for 3 years, but I find the 314-2 to be fine and the Z to be even stiffer/less deflection, some people just won't like the small diameter.

Have also hit a few times with the OB series, I think they are fine too, personal preference. Also heard good things about the Mezz HP Pro (?), 12.5mm, stiff taper, and comes standard with a 5/16x14 piloted joint.

Royce and OB Cues make shafts that fit the Schon but i do not think anyone but OB makes the OB Shaft, classic or OB. Check with Royce for sure but i would bet on it. 877-399-9901

Hey Lambros Cues make a LD shaft that is to die for and will fit it to anything. I know we just made a shaft for a Schon not long ago...
