It is my opinion that the Gus forearms on the old Schons are the unstained, straight grained ones. Not the curly maple lightly stained forearms. I do not want to imply that all the unstained are from Gus but that Gus only made this type for Runde. An example from my collection is the R9 (7th cue from the left).
This is simply my opinion formed from discussions with various collectors and players. There is a board member here on AZ named Mike Cernero who can speak to this topic. Maybe Mike will chime in.
Whether made by Gus or Runde the work is fabuluos and the cues play great.

Mike and I have corresponded quite a bit about this. He is originally from the northeast and used to run in the crowd with Gus and associates. Mike says that Gus definitely supplied pointed forearms and other components for the early Schon cues.

BTW - Mike, good luck on the IPT this year!!!!
