I’m looking for an instructor but I don’t know what to ask for. I feel that I have a good grasp on the game but I know I still need help, but on what I’m just not sure. What should I do or who should I see.

Thx,
Mark

I could give you a list of questions to ask a potential instructor before making a decision, but then I saw you are in Houston. If you can swing a long 3 day weekend in Dallas, the best option would be to contact RandyG at CueTech in Dallas. He is one of the top instructors in the country.

Any good instructor should be able to determine where you need help with your game after watching you play a few racks.

Mark...I'll be in Houston giving lessons two weeks from now. If you're interested, PM me your name and phone number, and we can discuss your needs and desires. Satisfaction guaranteed, or you don't pay me.

Spimp13...If you cannot attend randyg's 3 day school, I'll be coming through DM, less than two weeks after that. PM me, if you're interested. There's also a very good BCA instructor in Davenport (Steve Campana). Steve wrote the book, Black Belt Billiards, and used to post here as Socrates, but I haven't seen him post in quite a while.

Any in Des Moines or surrounding areas within the state still?

Hey everyone,

This is well my offical first post and it won't be my last that's for sure.

I was reading up on this instruction thing and had a few questions. I will number them for ease of answering.

1. Where could I find instruction in southern california?

2. How much does instruction usually cost?

3. What if I don't own my own table but go and play on one 3-4 times a week?

4. I'm 24 is it possible for me to be pro if I practice? (I have been playing a while, I can make the balls into the pockets usually)

Thank you, and sorry for hijacking the thread I just didn't want to waste space...

Thank you again in advance,

- Draz

go to www.bca-pool.com inder the instruction tab and go to "find an instructor"

2. How much does instruction usually cost?
That can vary widely, and isn't always an indicator of the quality of instruction. I know people who spent $2000 for a weekend and didn't learn as much as they hoped. They then went to another instructor who charged $45 per hour and were extremely pleased with the results. As a general rule, figure somewhere between $40-$75 per hour

3. What if I don't own my own table but go and play on one 3-4 times a week?
Most instructors will work with you wherever you choose. If you take lessons in a pool room, you should be prepared to pay for the table time.

4. I'm 24 is it possible for me to be pro if I practice? (I have been playing a while, I can make the balls into the pockets usually)
Turning pro is a possibility for anyone who is willing to put in the time and hard work. Making a living as a pro pool player is more difficult than actually becoming a pro

Draz...If you're interested, I will be out in S. CA, doing some private lessons, in November. PM me your information, if you'd like to be included in my schedule.
