You can buy a brand new Deluxe Cue Smith lathe with taper bars including shipping for less than $3000.

This lathe brand new is $1395. He is about $1500 over priced on the lathe. It is probably 15 years old and minimum 14 years old. It is not a Deluxe, it is just the old Full Size Cue Smith and may or may not be missing items.

How about this deal! He also is in texas? I think he is down to $2700 if he still has it. I think it was purchased back in May. Im just trying to help out.

i want something to build cue with taper attachment. Let me know waht you have, a price and pics are appreciated.

Just wanted to say thanks Wild West for not using the word "cheap" in your request. That word along with "cue lathe" does not even come close to the truth. You would be better off buying the deluxe from Chris. He is a great guy to deal with. If you don't support your hardware supplier they won't be able to support you. In this case Chris actually uses what he sells.

how does cue smith compare to a porper

About $1400 less plus the cue smith is built as well or better than the porper. I guess if you want something that was made in china than go for the porper. But Chris makes a great product for a hell of a better price IMHO.

Is unique better than cuesmith

Who knows? This question comes up often and there is no answer as there are never any unbiased opinions. Very few people have all three brands (Porper, Hightower and Unique) to be able to give a knowledgeable opinion. Those who have Hightowers claim it is the best, those owning Unique claim the same and likewise with Porper. Most people think they are smarter than others and since they invested in one machine over another then, to them, it must be the best.

Although they can pay for themselves quickly doing cue repair, as far as I'm concerned, they are all over priced. Of coarse I'm biased also as I use full size lathes, mills and other equipment. The one thing that you should inquire about is how easy it is to get support. That is what makes one machine superior to others.

The Porper is made and assembled in the USA. Please know the facts before you type. ;)

I am just going on what the person at the Creative Inventions booth at the super billiards expo told me a few years ago. Just because Mr. Porper invented this item does'nt mean that he dont have the parts outsourced. And that came from the person that works and assembles these lathes for Mr.Porper . I'm not saying that he does'nt have a good product I'm just saying that there are just as good and or better products for a lot less money.

I'm sorry, but that guy was wrong. Porper has parts, as do other manufacturers, made elsewhere, such as the Bison chuck (Poland), but the majority of the componants are made in California. I've been there, I've seen it, I'm friends with Joe, and I was helping in his booth at the SBE this year. I also filmed and new instructional DVD, for the machine, that is available, if you are interested in the Model B. Price of the DVD is reimbursed upon purchase of the machine.

There is no other machine on the market similar to Joe's. If you are worried about the cost of the machines involved in cuemaking, cuemaking probably isn't for you. If there is a better machine, with the same capabilities, of Joe's on the market, I'd love to see it.
