My new standard opinion of break cues, is to get the same cue at the same weight that you play with. The only thing different would be the tip (a hard tip).

I agree whole heartedly with this response. I am now on my 3rd break cue. The first unknown is still my favorite. I purchased the OB and sold it a week later. Own a Gilbert now but changed the tip. Literally I am with my son driving back from having a Searing precision tip put on. So I will see how it playing in a bit.
All that and I can pick up any of my other 3 player cues and break a ton better than with any break cue. I have found a break cue to be very, very stiff. Rock hard hit. Even with tip changes. Hard to control if you already have a strong break. Making it counter productive. If I take "a lot" of speed off my break I actually break better with a particular break cue but still not as well as a player cue. So my conclusion is if you have a mediocre break then the break cue may help. I don't find it does in my case.
My problem is my acceptable player cues range from $1700-$5000. So kinda hard to justify setting a cue a side for that specific task. Although I would love to.
