with "A" and better players. Went to Duke and Dutchess pool hall, big dive. Can anyone tell me the better ones to go to? I have a list of them, just want to save time w/o driving to each one.

Duke and Dutchess is indeed a dive, I've always been scared to even go in there.

They can always get you someone to play, and if you come at the "right time", even ME!!! lol
This is just a "heads up" for my area if you're ever in it. good luck finding what you want,Jeff

Practice starts @ 7:30 and the tournament usually starts between 8:00 and 8:30. There is action too if you are looking for it. Breaker's is where you are looking for.

Is anyone around there old enough to remember Kelly's Poolroom on Potomac? During the 50's the room was just a block or so in from West Liberty on the N. side of the street, a block or two down from the show. He then moved over to a basement joint on the corner of Illinois and W. Liberty. I think he was there until he died in the 1960's. There he had two duck pin bowling lanes as well. I used to set pins there.Oscar_Meyer said:Come to Breaker's tonight, 1413 Potomac Ave. 15216. Whoops! Jimmy --not Dan-- Marino. Yeah, Dan is a helluva quarterback.billyjack said:We did have a Dan Marino in Pittsburgh a while back, Doc. His room was the Univ. of Pitt Student Union. Last I heard, he moved to Florida(job-related) and tried to make his mark there.

South Hills Golden Cuehttp://www.web-friend.com/goldencue/ in the outlying town of Bridgeville is owned by Jimmy Marino, a former pro, said to be one of the top players in the country 30-35 years ago. I don't think there's as much $$ action there as Breakers, but I still consider it a great place to play. Kinda my home room. Sixteen 9 ft Brunswicks, I think (I never counted), and a Three-Cushion table. Nice people, both employees and players. There's a single table in the back with about 80 theatre-type seats where Jimmy used to bring in people like Miz, Mike Sigel, Allan Hopkins for weekend exhibition tourneys just to keep his hand in the game. Sometimes I'll book the table for a tournament with my buddies, and Jimmy will visit and lay out one of their winning shots from 25 yrs ago. Cool stuff. At least with a former pro as the owner, you get good cloth and new Master Blue. I don't really gamble much, so I can't speak for the action, but ask Brandi or Gary at the door and I'm sure you'll find out. If you ever see some tall 50-something guy missing two out of three shots on a Wed. nite, stop by and say hello-it's probably me.
