The Expo isn't the easiest event to go to "on the cheap". If you're going for the pool, you're better off going to the US Open, or even the BCA in Vegas. You can go to both of those cheaper than you can the expo, depending on how long you stay.

The only airport option is the Philly airport and you will need to get a rental car because the airport is approx 30 or 40 miles from the event if I remember correctly. The area that the expo is in, King of Prussia/Valley Forge is a high end area. Hotels and restaurants aren't very cheap.

Go to google maps and type in "hotels near 1160 1st ave, king of prussia, pa." That will show you where all the hotels are in relation to the expo and it will give you contact info to call and price rooms.

Good post.

The airport is actually a lil closer, like 10 miles away. There are shuttles to the Expo that run around $25. The hotels aren't cheap, tho. Try the Homestead Suites or the Sleep Inn. You might be able to get rooms around $80 a nite.

Where are you coming from?
I believe Philadelphia is the closest airport. Post here in the forum and you may find someone willing to split the cost of a car rental. Hotels run from $100 on up. Some hotels offer a shuttle bus. If you are staying up all night to watch all the action you may need to get a ride because the shuttles don't run all night. Staying at the Scantacon will save you the cost of a rental , but you still to get to the convention center from the airport.
The cost of the convention is cheap, maybe $45 for the entire convention plus $10 to get in to watch the pros play. There will be a lot of good amature players to watch for free.

Did you check this?

www.vfconventioncenter.com/transportation.htm

There are reasonably priced hotels in the area, check with ones offer courtesy bus shuttle to the center. King of prussia mall is nearby with restaurants in all price ranges. There is a walmart with a supermarket nearby

good luck and hope you make it down.

I guess the airport felt like it was 30 or 40 miles away due to the traffic I had to endure. :embarrassed2:

There is a hotel across the street from the Radisson (Homestead, maybe?) that would at least be walking distance (it can get COLD) and you could save on a rental car.

$10 to get in to watch the pros play.
It has been awhile since I've been but I seem to remember $10 for general admission, and $20 to watch the pros.

scantacon has been booked up since last year...
The Scanticon is next to impossible to get into due to Mr. Hopkins saving those rooms for the vendors. The Radisson (down the long hallway) is where most stay but that must be reserved months in advance.

If a room can be found for $80 to $100 a night then it would be best to go that route and rent a car. Isn't the Radisson about $150 a day? Staying at the Radisson without a rental car would cost more than staying off site with a car.

Philly is the closest airport to fly into. If your renting a car then you should be able to find a reasonable room. I checked and for 4 days you can rent a full size car for under $100. Hotel rooms look to start around $75 a night. So if your flying in Thursday and flying out sunday you should spend about $500 for hotel, car(with gas).

Philadelphia airport (airport code PHL) is the nearest airport, and is about 20-25 minutes from the convention center.

Forget this whole rental car situation though. Completely unnecessary as there is a bus from the airport to the convention center, and almost all hotels in the area have free shuttle buses to and from the convention.

Hotels range in price, but many still have rooms available. A few have an $80 per night special if you book for 4 days or more.

Hope to see you there :)

for me a rental car is a steal at under $100 and would be money well spent IMAO. That way if you want to go somewhere and eat some decent food and find a store to pickup a few food items to have in the room or just explore and get away for a few hours it is easy to do.

Either way it is still a great event to go to and I have gone the past 7 years and don't plan on ever missing one.
