You must know exactly what you don't like about any particular cue before you can find one you like.
If you don't know what you dislike, try out some cues so that you can figure out what really just does NOT work.
Only then will you be able to figure out what you really want.

If you are sold on OB shafts, then the weight, balance, size and feel of the butt will mean a lot more than whether a cue is "custom" or "production".

Thank you all

I appreciate all the great advice. It gives me some ood direction and I have seen some really nice cues. I think I will pop in on the Derby (3 1/2 hour drive) and try some out. I go to some national events and never hit with any cues. I know what I dont like and that IS a great place to start. I will keep an eye out here as well. Thanks.

I have owned many cues. I have had $4500 cues from top tier cue makers such as Scruggs and Bill Schick. I have owned just about everything out there and I have built cues for twenty years. I have played with several types of LD shafts such as Jacoby Hybrid, OB-1, Tiger and Predator. I just bought a cue made to Mark Wilson's specifications made by Mike Durbin and endorsed by Mark Wilson. This is without a doubt the finest playing cue I have ever owned. It is balanced perfect, has a sweet hit and the cue ball rebounds off the cushions properly and is a very predictable cue. This cue can be purchased under a thousand dollars and comes in three different color coordinated styles. The execution of the cue is flawless. I can't say enough about this cue, it is that good. If I were you I would pass up all the so called top tier cuemakers and save yourself a whole lot of money and buy one of these cues. It is the most perfect playing cue I have ever had in my hands. I have played pool for over 50 years and have many years of league play behind me so I know what I am talking about. I am also a retired Degreed Design Engineer. I know what I am talking about. If I could have found a cue like this years ago I would have saved myself a lot of money. The trap people fall into is the ego trip of owning an expensive cue. Let me tell you from experience that dollars does not necessarily mean excellence. Some of the pretty expensive cues out there play like crap. This is the best advice I can give you.
