You may want to reach out to Jerry Rauenzhan. He's recently made some shafts with the ebony fronts- Here comes the Rieper. That way you can keep the original shaft as-is.
If it is something you're going to shoot with, it might make sense to core out some of the ebony and plug it with maple.
