I am looking to put some green simonis 860 cloth put on a 9ft gold crown. I am trying to get some quotes on the job and am looking for suggestions. I looked online to see the prices of the cloth itself to get a starting point. I have found it ranging from: 179.20 - 204.95 for just the cloth and posted msrp is 240. How much should I expect to pay for labor? The spots definitely need to be leveled but other than that the table should be in fairly good condition.

I have emailed one local shop, and will be calling around tomorrow looking for more shops to talk to. Im more just looking to know a little bit before I start talking to them.

The things I think I know at this point... I know what it costs for me to get the felt here as most of the places in that price range offer free shipping on orders over 50-75+. I also realize that a billiard company would more than likely prefer to have an installer install their product, I know I could probably get an installer to install the cloth on his own time but then I have noone to bitch to if its not done right. I also know that peace of mind, having the product and the labor coming from 1 company who is a reputable company is worth a few extra bucks.

So what should it cost for just labor? Also what should I expect to pay for the cloth and labor? Im in easterm Massachusetts north of boston for a geographical reference and if anyone had any suggestions on a shop to call.

Thanks in advance.

I think around here its either 300 or 350 for a table recover in Simonis. I got mine setup with Simonis from the beginning...it plays nicely. Well worth the money.

Shorty

most established mechanics charge between 200-300 for an install/recloth,labor only.if you buy thier cloth and they have a showroom somewhere your gonna pay full retail.expect to pay between 400-500 for cloth and labor.prices vary due to location/population/demand/reputation.

Simonis 860 in green or the new Tour Blue is $145 plus shipping from Diamond Billiard Products for a 9' table. You should consider the Tour Blue because you will be able to see better. US Tennis Association just changed the tennis court color to something that looks like "Tour Blue" so it is easier to see the tennis balls against that background color. That is also the case with pool balls against the background color of Tour Blue. Whoever installs your cloth should have experience so that it is stretched properly and uniformly. Then it will play with the speed and roll that you would expect from a high quality cloth like Simonis 860.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Steve I have emailed both of those places you recommended, looking for quotes on both the labor and then the total package (just to see if they would give a price if I bought the cloth elsewhere or not. I am going to be calling the country club later and asking if they have anyone they would refer me too as well.

As far as the color goes, I agree with you that a blue might be a little bit easier on the eyes but the cloth is for a club table and im merely the one trying to get it covered sooner rather than later. Which is why I have to go about getting a few quotes and doing a little more research than if I was doing it on my own. (it all has to be run by the board) And I know people would just complain about a color change so its not worth it to me to deal with that :) They will complain enough with the speed change im sure.

Paul makes a really good point about stretching the cloth...Simonis is 100% wool and will relax a whole lot after a few weeks or days. Also pay particular attention to the rail coverings...860 is a little heavier than 760 and will cause the rail rubber to dent (making it impossible to bank accurately) if the tension is not even. In short, it is very difficult for a novice to install it correctly in my experience. Discuss both of these issues with your installer prior to having the work done.

1st quote:

The cost of green simonis 860 for a 9' set would be $255.
The total cost for us to recover the table including cloth is $625
The total cost if you purchase the material elsewhere but have us recover the table is $495

Needless to say im continueing shopping :)

ac-cue-rate????

I think you should shoot for $400 or less for cloth and installation. IMO $350 or less would be a pretty good deal.

Second quote so far:
D&L Billiards and Barstools
Providence, RI 401-421-7558
cloth & labor: $550
labor: $375 (if i buy my own cloth)

I think what I really need to do is locate an installer who has experience with simonis and I will purchase the felt on my own.

I talked to another place that quoted me 270 for the cloth alone and they gave me the number for their installer. I will try to work out a deal with him if possible to see what he can do for me with labor.

Thanks again guys.

Hi When i was doing tables i charged $400.00 to $450.00 and that includes the 860 cloth. I also make sure the table was level, the seems were good the rails havn't broke loose and checked for loose bolts. This also includes covering the rails. I have know people to charge as much as $500.00 to $550.00. Just make sure that you get them to check everything i mention. Most people dont look for these things they just want the money and do a crappy job. Just labor should be around $200.00 to $250.00 but make sure they do all that i have suggested. I have done around 500 tables and learn't what to look for, Good luck :p

It isnt that hard to recover a table its rather easy cept for the rails..... The middle is easy me and my dad recovered our table about a month ago and its NICE!!!!

Was it with Simonis? The way I understand it with Simonis you have to be very careful to keep the weave lines straight or it will effect the path of slow rollers.

When I recover home tables with 860 Simonis I charge $450+ depending what I have to do and how far I have to travel.

As far as streching cloth, you need to do it evenly no mater what kind it is. You need to strech Simonis as tight as you can. Most people do not strech it tight enough.
