Hey guys/gals, recently I underwent surgery on my left shoulder and had to stop shooting pool for a few weeks. Now that I am back up and shooting my whole timing and feel is off. I guess it's pretty natural for that to happen and one day it may just come back. Before I went for the surgery I wanted to improve my shooting ability but didn't know how or where to start.
I can go to the pool hall and shoot games with my friends and sometimes be shooting well and at other times shooting awful. I can go alone and run drills sometimes shooting well other times shooting awful. It's hard to know what I am doing right or wrong. Where do I need to improve? Is it my stroke? my aiming? something else? I guess the easiest way is to take some lessons with a coach (which I thought about but didn't know how to find a good one in my area NYC). I've seen tons of post talking about instructional DVD's aiming systems etc but how do you know which are going to be helpful and which are worth investing in? I've been playing in my local APA league for about 2 years and I've had some rough patches and some good runs and worked to a solid mid 4 ranking but I know there are many games I gave away and truly feel I have room for major improvement with the right instruction.
What advice could anyone offer on where to start? Looking for a coach/lessons? how do I find one? what dvd are worth investing in? How do I evaluate where I am at and where I should improve my game. Any help at all is a ton of help to me. Thank you for taking the time to read this and if you reply thank you in advance for helping me out.
