Can someone recommend a good pool store in Cincy or Indy? I'm looking to spend somewhere between $500 and $1000. I have Schons and Predators. Looking at something along those lines or maybe a Joss.

I'm usually too impatient for anything custom, though I've done it before. Right now I want to just go somewhere with a nice selection and see if anything catches my eye.

Thats the wrong way to buy a cue, You said you want to see if anything catches your eye, That tells me your going to buy a cue on looks only,
You should buy a cue based on feel and how it hits when in your hands.
If you have $1,000.00 to spend you should consider this Mint Scruggs cue I have posted for sale for $1,050.00 shipped. You will never find any production cue that hit as good as a Scruggs cue does. Check it out I have added the link ..

I'm calling foul here. As a consumer, anyone has their own right to buy however they want for whatever their reasoning. There is no "right way" to buy a cue.
He already says he's looking on the lines of Schon, Predator, and Joss. That's looks like he's got a target play-ability and is going for some eye candy.

If you are going to the billiard retailer to find something that catches your eye than also ask to hit some balls with it. If the dealer will not let you hit some balls than prices online are mostly cheaper than brick and mortar for the exact same cue. Either way you will not hit a ball before you buy but one will be cheaper than the other.
The dealer may/may not be able to adjust the weight of the cue you are interested in and that is an advantage while buying in person. Being able to check the balance and feel of the cue is also worth a few bucks. Having already bought a few cues you probably know all this already!

Mostly just looking to fill a gap in my wall rack with a nice looking cue that also plays well. I have fairly simple tastes. Not looking to replace my daily shooter. I've never been to any pool supply stores in Indianapolis or Cincinnati. If nothing else, it's always fun to go check out various pool items. Bryan Roberts here in Louisville can most likely adjust the weight if I need to do that, except for the Hoppe-style Schon I bought from him the other day.

Orner Billiards in Indy. About two miles north of the Airport. Not sure what kind and how much of a selection they have.

there used to be a place called billiards direct in cincy
they closed, but the dayton store is still open (as far as i know)
you can also try michaels billiards in fairfield (just north of cincy )
they sell cues and so does airway billiards in dayton
watson's in cincy also has cues, been a long time since i been there though
could probably check online to see what they offer
There is always the idea of contacting custom cuemakers and asking if they have any partially completed cues that they may be looking to sell. You never know what will happen, sometimes customers back out of a cue for one reason or another. I was at a cuemakers shop just recently and got a cue that way. All he has to do is the shafts and I will have a new cue in way less time than doing a new design or getting on the never ending wait list.. Sometimes you just have to think outside the box and take a chance. Worked for me!
